KTP Kotka Women claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Helsinki B Women in the Finnish Women’s Ykkonen on 24 October 2026, with a second-half goal proving enough to separate the sides. The win gave KTP Kotka three valuable points and underlined their ability to grind out a result in a tightly contested league fixture.

Match overview

KTP Kotka Women started with intent, pressing high and forcing Helsinki B Women into a series of early clearances. The home side dominated the opening exchanges, moving the ball quickly through midfield and looking to stretch the defence with runs from wide areas. Helsinki B Women, however, remained compact and disciplined, limiting the space available in behind their back line.

As the first half wore on, the game became more balanced. Helsinki B Women grew into the contest and began to keep possession for longer spells, but they struggled to create clear chances against a well-organised KTP defence. The decisive moment arrived in the second half, when KTP Kotka found the breakthrough their pressure had been building towards.

Tactical story

KTP Kotka Women’s approach was built on energy and aggression. They pressed in coordinated spells, forcing Helsinki B Women into rushed passes and creating turnovers in useful areas. Their midfield trio worked tirelessly to close gaps, and the front line was always ready to attack the space behind the defence.

Helsinki B Women responded with a more patient build-up, trying to draw their opponents forward and then play through the lines. They had spells of possession but lacked the final pass in the attacking third. Once KTP Kotka took the lead, the home side dropped slightly deeper and defended their box with concentration, making it difficult for Helsinki B Women to find an equaliser.

Standout performers

Noora Lahti was the match-winner for KTP Kotka Women, showing composure to finish the game’s clearest opportunity. Aino Virtanen was reliable in goal, dealing with crosses and making one important second-half save, while Ella Mäkinen produced a strong defensive display at the heart of the back line.

For Helsinki B Women, Venla Korhonen was a bright spark in midfield, constantly looking to turn possession into forward momentum. Her effort and movement caused problems, even if the final product was missing on the day.

Season impact

The Finnish Women’s Ykkonen result strengthens KTP Kotka Women’s position in the standings and gives them momentum heading into their next fixture. A clean sheet will be particularly pleasing, as it demonstrates the defensive solidity needed in a competitive league where fine margins often decide matches.

Helsinki B Women will be disappointed to leave without a point, but their performance showed enough promise to suggest they can respond. The standings remain tight, and both teams will know that consistency over the coming weeks will be crucial to their ambitions this season.
