PPJ/Ruoholahti edged a seven-goal classic in the Finnish Kolmonen, defeating LePa 4-3 in a match that delivered everything the fourth tier of Finnish football is known for: relentless tempo, technical attacking play and a finish that kept supporters guessing until the final whistle.

Match Overview

Contests between Helsinki-based PPJ/Ruoholahti and Espoo's LePa have traditionally been competitive, and this meeting more than lived up to that reputation. Both sides favour an assertive, forward-thinking style, and with the Kolmonen season reaching its decisive phase, neither was prepared to sit back and defend a point.

• Final score: PPJ/Ruoholahti 4-3 LePa
• Competition: Finnish Kolmonen
• Goals: Seven, with the hosts claiming the narrowest of victories
• Character of the game: Open, high-tempo and decided by finishing quality

How the Match Unfolded

PPJ started brightly and took the game to their visitors, pressing high and forcing LePa into rushed clearances. The reward came early, with the hosts converting sustained pressure into the opening goal and setting the tone for a first half played almost entirely in the attacking thirds.

LePa, though, are not a side that folds. Their response was measured and effective — a period of possession football that pulled PPJ out of their defensive shape and created the space for a reply. From there the match became a genuine back-and-forth affair, with the lead changing hands and both goalkeepers kept busy throughout.

Key Moments

• PPJ strike first: an early goal rewarded a bright, aggressive start from the hosts.
• LePa respond: patient build-up play created an equaliser and swung momentum briefly in the visitors' favour.
• The turning point: PPJ regained the lead with a well-executed set-piece routine, restoring their control of the contest.
• Late drama: LePa pulled a goal back to set up a tense finale, but PPJ managed the closing minutes calmly to see out the win.

Tactical Story

Both managers set their teams up to attack, and the result was a match with very little midfield congestion and a great deal of space in behind. PPJ's approach relied on quick vertical passing and aggressive pressing in the opposition half, while LePa preferred to build patiently from the back and use their wide players to stretch the pitch.

The decisive factor was PPJ's efficiency in transition. Every time LePa lost the ball in advanced areas, the hosts moved forward with purpose and punished the gaps left behind. LePa created enough chances to take something from the game, but their defensive transitions were consistently a step slower than their opponents' attacking ones — a difference that proved costly in a match settled by a single goal.

Standout Performers

PPJ's attacking players were the story of the afternoon, combining movement and link-up play to repeatedly break through LePa's defensive line. Their midfield anchor also deserves credit for controlling the tempo and disrupting LePa's rhythm during the visitors' best spells. LePa's forward line impressed in its own right, contributing three goals and demonstrating the finishing quality that has made them a competitive force in the division.

What It Means for the Table

The three points are hugely valuable for PPJ/Ruoholahti, who strengthen their position in the Kolmonen standings at a stage of the season when every result carries added weight. Winning a match of this nature — high-scoring and psychologically demanding — can also build belief within a squad.

For LePa, the defeat is a tough one to absorb, particularly given their three-goal contribution. Scoring three away from home and returning empty-handed highlights the fine margins in a division where matches are frequently decided by defensive discipline rather than attacking flair.

Up Next

PPJ will be keen to build on the victory and tighten up defensively after conceding three. LePa, meanwhile, will focus on converting their attacking productivity into results, with their defensive organisation likely to be the priority in the weeks ahead.
