HPS Women produced a commanding 4-0 away victory over Ilves Tampere Women in the Finnish Kansallinen Liiga on 18 October 2026, delivering one of the standout results of the round.

The 20:00 fixture was controlled by HPS from the early stages, as the visitors pressed aggressively, moved the ball with purpose, and punished Ilves Tampere Women for a series of defensive lapses. By the time the final whistle arrived, the scoreline reflected HPS’s dominance and Ilves’s difficult evening.

Match overview

HPS Women set the tone almost immediately, winning possession high up the pitch and forcing Ilves into hurried clearances. The opening goal arrived inside the first 10 minutes and gave the visitors confidence to keep pushing forward. Ilves tried to respond through direct passes into the channels, but HPS’s compact shape limited their options.

The second goal before half-time gave HPS a cushion that never looked seriously threatened. After the break, the visitors managed the game intelligently, slowing the tempo when needed and striking again when Ilves committed players forward. The fourth goal completed a ruthless attacking display.

Key moments

• 9th minute: HPS Women took the lead after a high turnover and a quick finish inside the penalty area.
• 32nd minute: A flowing move doubled the advantage, with HPS switching play before delivering a low cross that was converted at the back post.
• 58th minute: HPS scored a third after winning a second ball in midfield and attacking the space left by Ilves’s advancing full-backs.
• 76th minute: The visitors completed the scoring with a composed finish after another spell of sustained pressure.

Tactical story

HPS Women’s pressing structure was the foundation of the win. Their forwards closed down Ilves’s centre-backs, while the midfield screened passes into central areas and forced the home side wide. Once HPS won the ball, they attacked quickly, often using the flanks to stretch Ilves’s defence.

Ilves Tampere Women struggled to build sustained attacks. Their best moments came from set-pieces and long balls over the top, but HPS defended those situations comfortably for most of the match. The visitors’ ability to control the middle of the pitch and win second balls made it difficult for Ilves to gain any momentum.

Standout performers

HPS’s attacking players were clinical, but the midfield deserve just as much credit for the control they established. Their ability to break up play and launch quick counter-attacks gave Ilves problems throughout. Ilves’s goalkeeper made several saves to prevent an even heavier defeat, while their defenders kept working despite the scoreline.

What the result means

The three points are a major statement for HPS Women in the Kansallinen Liiga and will strengthen their confidence as the season progresses. A 4-0 away win is the kind of result that can lift a squad’s belief and improve goal difference. For Ilves Tampere Women, the defeat is a setback that will require a quick response, particularly defensively, as they look to regroup for their next fixture.
