Venezuela U17 Women secured a narrow but significant 1-0 victory over Germany U17 Women in their FIFA U17 Women's World Cup fixture on 28 October 2026. A disciplined defensive performance and a decisive second-half goal gave Venezuela all three points in a match where Germany enjoyed long spells of possession but struggled to turn control into clear chances.

Match overview

Germany U17 Women began the match with the greater share of the ball, building patiently from the back and looking to use width to stretch the Venezuelan defence. Venezuela U17 Women, however, were well organised from the opening whistle, keeping their defensive lines compact and forcing Germany into wide areas rather than allowing easy access to the penalty box.

The first half was a story of German possession without penetration. Venezuela’s midfield worked hard to close down space, and their forward players were quick to counter whenever possession was regained. The match remained finely balanced at the break, but the pattern was set: Germany would have to break down a determined low block, while Venezuela would look to strike on the break.

Key moments

The decisive moment came in the second half. After absorbing another spell of German pressure, Venezuela U17 Women won the ball in midfield and moved forward with purpose. A quick exchange on the edge of the penalty area opened a shooting lane, and the Venezuelan forward kept her composure to finish past the German goalkeeper and make it 1-0.

Germany U17 Women responded with urgency, pushing more players forward and increasing the tempo of their passing. They created a few half-chances from crosses and set pieces, but Venezuela’s goalkeeper produced a commanding performance, claiming the ball confidently and making a crucial late save to preserve the lead. Germany’s best effort came from a shot outside the box that narrowly cleared the crossbar.

Tactical story

Germany U17 Women controlled possession and tried to pull Venezuela’s defence apart with quick combinations, but they were often forced into sideways passing. Venezuela U17 Women sat deep, stayed compact and used their pace in transition to create the game’s most dangerous moments.

• Germany U17 Women: Dominated the ball, used width and set pieces, but lacked sharpness in the final third.
• Venezuela U17 Women: Defended as a unit, broke quickly and took the decisive chance when it arrived.
• Decisive phase: Venezuela’s second-half counterattack proved the difference in a match of few clear opportunities.

Standout performers

Venezuela U17 Women’s goalkeeper was one of the key figures of the match, making important saves and organising her defence throughout. The centre-backs were excellent in the air and alert to danger, while the goalscorer’s composure in the decisive moment underlined Venezuela’s efficiency in attack.

For Germany U17 Women, the central midfielders worked tirelessly to keep the team moving forward, and the full-backs provided width and energy. However, Germany’s forwards found little room against a disciplined Venezuelan back line and were unable to convert their team’s territorial advantage into a goal.

Tournament impact

The 1-0 win is a major result for Venezuela U17 Women in the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup standings, giving them three points and a clean sheet to build on. Germany U17 Women remain with work to do and will need a response in their next group fixture, having shown plenty of possession but lacking the final product. In a tournament where small margins decide progression, Venezuela’s organisation and clinical counterattacking proved the difference.
