Uxbridge FC 0-4 Hornchurch — Hornchurch produced a ruthless away performance at Honeycroft to beat Uxbridge FC 4-0 in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round and move within one step of the first round proper. The visitors set the tone early, controlled the key moments, and scored twice in each half to turn a potentially tricky cup tie into a comfortable victory.

Match overview

Uxbridge FC entered the tie hoping that home advantage and a compact cup approach could unsettle a Hornchurch side used to playing at a higher level. Instead, the visitors imposed themselves from the opening exchanges, pressing high and forcing the home side into hurried clearances. Hornchurch led before the half-hour mark and doubled the advantage before the interval, leaving Uxbridge with a mountain to climb.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Uxbridge tried to push bodies forward in search of a route back into the contest, but Hornchurch managed the space behind the home defense well and added two more goals on the counter. The scoreline reflected the visitors’ greater cutting edge in the final third and their ability to punish mistakes at crucial moments.

Key moments

• Early breakthrough: Hornchurch opened the scoring with a well-worked move down the right, finished confidently at the near post.
• Second before the break: A loose ball in the Uxbridge box fell to Hornchurch’s midfield runner, who lashed it into the roof of the net.
• Third after the restart: Uxbridge pushed forward, but Hornchurch won possession and broke quickly to make it 3-0.
• Late fourth: The visitors capped the win with a close-range finish after sustained pressure on the Uxbridge back line.

Tactical story

Hornchurch’s high press was the defining feature of the match. The visitors denied Uxbridge time on the ball in midfield and repeatedly forced turnovers in dangerous areas. Their wide players stretched the home defense, creating space for central runners, while the back line stepped up to catch Uxbridge offside when the hosts tried to go long.

Uxbridge, by contrast, struggled to sustain possession. The Reds had brief spells of pressure but lacked the final pass to trouble the Hornchurch goalkeeper consistently. Once Hornchurch scored the second goal, the game opened up, and the visitors’ superior pace and movement became even more apparent.

Standout players

Hornchurch’s center-forward led the line superbly, holding the ball up and bringing teammates into play, while also getting on the scoresheet. The visiting midfield controlled the tempo and won the majority of second balls. For Uxbridge, the goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score from becoming even more one-sided, and the captain tried to drive the team forward despite limited service.

What the result means

Hornchurch advance to the next stage of the FA Cup qualifying rounds with confidence and a clean sheet, while Uxbridge FC will turn their attention back to league matters. For the home side, the defeat is a reminder of the gap in quality that can emerge in cup football, but the run to this stage still offers positives. For Hornchurch, the 4-0 win is a statement result and a strong platform for the next round.
