Sholing FC advanced in the Emirates FA Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Tiverton Town on Saturday, September 19, 2026. A single second-half goal at Ladysmead settled a tight cup tie and sent the visitors into the next qualifying round.

Match overview

The first half was closely contested, with Tiverton Town enjoying more possession but struggling to break down a well-organised Sholing defence. Sholing sat deep, limited space behind their back line, and looked to counterattack through the channels. The game’s decisive moment arrived in the second half when Sholing scored from a quick transition.

Tiverton pushed hard for an equaliser in the final twenty minutes, sending extra bodies forward and delivering a series of crosses into the box. Sholing defended bravely, cleared their lines, and held on for a valuable cup win.

Key moments

• 31st minute: Tiverton Town’s best chance of the first half fell to their striker, but a last-ditch block denied him inside the box.
• 67th minute – Tiverton Town 0-1: Dan Mason scored the only goal of the game, finishing calmly after a swift Sholing counterattack.
• 78th minute: Tiverton forced a series of corners, but Sholing’s goalkeeper claimed the ball confidently under pressure.
• 88th minute: Tiverton had a late penalty appeal turned down, and Sholing cleared the danger to see out the match.

Tactical story

Sholing’s game plan was built on defensive discipline and quick breaks. Their midfield dropped into a compact shape whenever Tiverton had possession, making it difficult for the home side to play through the middle. When Sholing won the ball, they moved it forward quickly and targeted the space behind Tiverton’s advanced full-backs.

Tiverton dominated the ball but lacked a cutting edge in the final third. Their crossing was often dealt with by Sholing’s centre-backs, and clear chances were rare. The visitors’ patience and organisation ultimately made the difference in a classic cup tie.

Standout players

Dan Mason was the match-winner with a composed finish at a crucial moment. Sholing’s goalkeeper was excellent in the closing stages, commanding his area and making a key save. In defence, their captain led by example with a series of important clearances. For Tiverton, the midfielder who drove forward most consistently was their standout performer, but the team will rue their lack of a finishing touch.

Season impact

The win sends Sholing FC into the next round of the FA Cup and brings the financial and sporting boost that comes with a cup run. For Tiverton Town, the focus now shifts back to league form, where they will look to turn possession into points. Cup results can shape a season, and this narrow away victory is one Sholing will remember with pride.

Final score: Tiverton Town 0-1 Sholing FC.
