Sholing FC progressed in the FA Cup with a confident 2-0 home victory over SE Dons on 17 October 2026, scoring once in each half to secure a deserved win in front of their home supporters.

Sholing take control

Sholing started the tie on the front foot, pressing high and forcing SE Dons into early mistakes. The home side’s energy was rewarded in the 18th minute when a well-worked move down the left ended with a low cross into the box that was converted from close range. SE Dons responded with a spell of possession, but Sholing’s defensive shape stayed compact and limited the visitors to efforts from outside the penalty area.

The second goal arrived in the 74th minute and effectively settled the contest. Sholing won the ball back in midfield, moved it quickly into the attacking third, and a composed finish doubled the lead. SE Dons pushed forward in the final minutes, but Sholing managed the game professionally and kept a clean sheet to complete a strong cup performance.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Sholing took the lead with a close-range finish after a dangerous cross from the left.
• 33rd minute: SE Dons forced a save from the Sholing goalkeeper with a shot from the edge of the box.
• 52nd minute: A Sholing header from a corner went just over the bar.
• 74th minute: Sholing doubled their advantage with a calm finish after a quick turnover in midfield.
• 90+1 minute: The home defence cleared a late SE Dons cross to preserve the clean sheet.

Tactical story

Sholing’s pressing game was the foundation of the win. They denied SE Dons time on the ball in central areas and forced turnovers that led to dangerous attacks. The home side also used the width of the pitch well, stretching the visitors’ back line and creating space for crosses. SE Dons improved after the break and had moments of possession, but they struggled to break down a disciplined Sholing defence. The second goal came at the perfect time for the home side, removing much of the late tension.

Standout performers

Sholing’s winger was a constant threat, delivering the cross for the opening goal and causing problems throughout. The central midfielder who drove the team forward and helped create the second goal was another key figure. At the back, the centre-half pairing dealt confidently with SE Dons’ late pressure. For the visitors, their goalkeeper made several good saves to keep the tie alive, while their captain worked tirelessly in midfield.

Season impact

The victory sends Sholing FC into the next stage of the FA Cup and adds another positive result to their season. Cup runs can build confidence and bring valuable momentum to league form, and this performance will be especially pleasing because it combined attacking intent with a clean sheet. For SE Dons, the defeat ends their cup hopes, but the experience of a competitive away tie provides a useful benchmark as they return to their regular schedule.
