Guiseley delivered a commanding FA Cup away performance on 17 October 2026, defeating Leiston FC 3-0 at Victory Road with a controlled display at both ends of the pitch.

Match overview

Guiseley settled quickly and took control of the game with purposeful passing and intelligent movement off the ball. Leiston FC tried to press and disrupt their rhythm, but the visitors consistently found ways through the first line of pressure. Once Guiseley took the lead, they managed the contest impressively, denying Leiston any meaningful route back into the match.

Key moments

The opening goal arrived in the first half after Guiseley worked the ball into a dangerous area and finished with composure. Leiston’s best spell came early in the second half, but Guiseley’s goalkeeper and defence stood firm. The visitors doubled their lead just before the hour with a well-timed run and a crisp finish, and they added a third late on to cap a thoroughly professional performance.

Tactical story

Guiseley’s wide players stretched Leiston’s back line, creating space for midfield runners to exploit. Their pressing was also well coordinated, forcing Leiston into rushed passes and limiting the home side’s ability to build from the back. Leiston worked hard and never stopped trying, but they struggled to create clear-cut chances against a defence that stayed compact and alert throughout.

Standout performers

Guiseley’s midfield dictated the pace of the game and repeatedly linked defence with attack. The full-backs provided energy and width, while the forward players were ruthless in front of goal. For Leiston, the goalkeeper made several saves to prevent the scoreline from becoming heavier, and the home side’s midfield continued to compete despite the growing deficit.

What it means

The 3-0 victory sends Guiseley through with confidence and a clean sheet, which will please the coaching staff as much as the attacking display. For Leiston FC, it is a difficult FA Cup exit, but the experience of facing a strong, well-drilled opponent offers lessons to take into the league campaign. Guiseley, meanwhile, look like a side capable of making further progress in the competition.
