Tactical Story

Crowborough set up to be difficult to play through and dangerous on the break. Their midfield pressed in short bursts rather than constantly, which allowed them to keep their shape and avoid being dragged out of position. When they won the ball, the first pass was often direct, targeting the centre-forward and looking for runners beyond the Hampton & Richmond back line.

Hampton & Richmond enjoyed more possession but struggled to turn that control into clear chances. Their best moments came when they switched play quickly, yet Crowborough’s defenders held firm and were quick to close down shooting lanes. The hosts also looked a threat from every set-piece, an area that ultimately proved decisive.

Standout Players

Crowborough’s centre-forward was the obvious hero, leading the line with strength and scoring twice in a performance that mixed hold-up play with sharp penalty-box instincts. The goalkeeper also made two important saves, including a strong stop early in the second half that kept the score level at a crucial moment.

For Hampton & Richmond Borough, the midfielder who drove forward most consistently was their brightest outlet, but the visitors lacked the same cutting edge in the final third. Their equaliser was well constructed, yet they could not build on it after the interval.

What It Means

The win sends Crowborough Athletic into the next stage of the FA Cup and adds another memorable chapter to their cup history. For Hampton & Richmond Borough, it is a frustrating exit, especially after showing spells of control. Crowborough’s reward is a place in the draw and the confidence that comes from beating a more highly ranked opponent.
