Chesham United produced the most emphatic scoreline of the FA Cup second qualifying round, dismantling Ware 7-2 in a one-sided contest that will be remembered by the home supporters for years. Seven goals, a rampant attacking display and a place in the next round — it was the complete cup afternoon for the Buckinghamshire club.

Match overview

From the opening whistle, Chesham United looked sharper, stronger and more purposeful. The hosts pressed high, moved the ball quickly through midfield and repeatedly got in behind a Ware defence that struggled to cope with the pace and directness of the opposition attack. The opening goal arrived early, and the tone of the afternoon was set.

What followed was a ruthless demonstration of finishing. Chesham scored at regular intervals throughout the first half, exploiting space on both flanks and punishing every defensive mistake. Ware, to their credit, never abandoned their attacking intentions and managed to get on the scoresheet twice, but every time they threatened to build momentum, Chesham responded with another goal.

The second half was more of the same. Chesham's substitutes made an immediate impact, keeping the intensity high even as the game was long since decided, and the home side added further goals to complete a thoroughly convincing win. It was the kind of performance that sends a message to the rest of the competition.

Key moments

• Early breakthrough: Chesham take the lead inside the opening exchanges and never look back.
• First-half onslaught: Multiple goals before the break put the tie beyond doubt.
• Ware fight back: The visitors score twice to briefly reduce the deficit.
• Second-half procession: Chesham add more goals as the game becomes increasingly one-sided.
• Seven up: The hosts complete a comprehensive victory in front of an appreciative home crowd.

Standout players

It would be unfair to single out one individual from such a complete team performance, but Chesham's forward line was outstanding, with the strikers linking superbly and the wide players delivering a constant stream of crosses. The midfield duo controlled proceedings from start to finish, and the defence, despite conceding twice, were largely untroubled. Ware's goalkeeper made several sharp saves to keep the scoreline from becoming even more lopsided, while their two goalscorers showed commendable persistence.

What it means

A 7-2 win does more than secure progression — it builds belief. Chesham United will head into the next round with confidence soaring and opposition managers taking note. Ware exit the competition with a difficult afternoon behind them but with the consolation of two well-taken goals and the experience of testing themselves against a side in excellent form.
