Ethiopia Nigd Bank claimed a narrow but thoroughly professional 1-0 away win over Sidama Bunna in the Ethiopia Premier League on Sunday, 11 October 2026, with a single goal proving enough to separate two well-matched sides.

On a night when clear chances were at a premium, the visitors' patience and defensive organisation paid off. A solitary strike settled a contest that was decided largely in midfield, where Nigd Bank's compact block and disciplined pressing kept the hosts at arm's length for long periods.

How the game unfolded

Sidama Bunna began brightly in front of their home supporters, moving the ball quickly through the midfield and looking to get their wide players running at the full-backs early. The opening quarter of an hour belonged to the hosts, who forced a couple of corners and tested the Nigd Bank goalkeeper with an effort from outside the area.

But the visitors weathered the early storm and gradually imposed their own structure on the game. Nigd Bank sat in a compact mid-block, inviting pressure and then looking to spring forward through quick vertical passes. That approach created the game's decisive moment, when a turnover in the middle third was converted into a sharp attacking sequence and a finish that left the home goalkeeper with little chance.

The goal changed the complexion of the match. Sidama Bunna pushed more players forward in search of an equaliser, and the second half became a test of the visitors' concentration. Nigd Bank defended their box with real determination, blocking shots and clearing crosses with authority, while remaining dangerous on the break. The home side's best opportunity came from a header at the back post that drifted just wide, and a late free-kick from a promising position was dealt with comfortably.

Key moments

• The breakthrough: Ethiopia Nigd Bank capitalise on a midfield turnover to score the only goal of the match.
• Nigd Bank's resilience: A series of blocks and clearances midway through the second half frustrate the hosts.
• Sidama Bunna's near miss: A back-post header narrowly fails to find the target as the home side push for a leveller.
• The final whistle: Nigd Bank see out the closing minutes to secure all three points and a clean sheet.

Tactical story

The shape of this match was defined by Nigd Bank's discipline without the ball. Rather than pressing high, they defended in a narrow block and dared Sidama Bunna to find space in wide areas, where crosses could be handled by a physically strong centre-back pairing. It was a conservative plan but an effective one, and it forced the hosts into a large number of low-percentage deliveries.

Sidama Bunna's difficulty lay in the space between midfield and attack. Their number ten found himself crowded out repeatedly, and when the ball did reach the front line it was often with back to goal. The hosts improved after half-time by pushing their full-backs higher and committing an extra body into the box, but that only increased the risk on the counter — a risk Nigd Bank were happy to exploit.

Standout performers

Ethiopia Nigd Bank's goalkeeper was central to the result, dealing confidently with crosses and making one important save in each half. In front of him, the centre-backs were dominant in the air and read the game well, while the midfield trio covered enormous ground to protect the back four and initiate attacks.

For Sidama Bunna, the central midfielder who drove the team forward in the second half deserved credit for his energy, and the wide forward on the left produced the hosts' most dangerous moments. It was, in the end, a night defined by a lack of a finishing touch rather than a lack of effort.

What the result means

For Ethiopia Nigd Bank, this is the blueprint for a successful away campaign: stay organised, take the moment when it comes, and defend the lead with discipline. Three points and a clean sheet on the road are worth their weight in any title or top-half race, and the team will travel home with morale high.

Sidama Bunna are left to reflect on a game they controlled in spells without ever truly hurting their opponents. Turning territorial pressure into goals will be the priority in the coming fixtures, because this performance showed a side capable of competing with anyone in the Ethiopia Premier League — as long as the final third delivers.
