Negele Arsi secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Adama City in the Ethiopia Premier League on 26 October 2026, with a single goal proving enough to decide a closely contested encounter. The home side combined disciplined defending with a patient attacking approach, earning three valuable points and a clean sheet in front of their supporters.

A tight contest from the start

The match was played at a controlled tempo early on, with both teams cautious about committing too many players forward. Negele Arsi looked to build through midfield and use the width of the pitch, while Adama City sat compact and tried to threaten on the counter. Clear chances were limited in the opening period, but the home side gradually began to impose themselves and force Adama City deeper into their own half.

Key moment: the decisive goal

The breakthrough arrived in the second half after Negele Arsi increased the intensity of their pressing and worked the ball into dangerous areas around the penalty box. A well-timed attacking move produced the only goal of the game, giving the hosts a lead they protected with maturity. Adama City responded by pushing more players forward, but Negele Arsi’s defence held firm and limited clear sights of goal.

• Negele Arsi controlled more of the ball after the interval.
• The decisive goal came from a sustained spell of home pressure.
• Adama City increased their attacking intent late in the match.
• Negele Arsi’s defence and goalkeeper secured the clean sheet.

Tactical story

Negele Arsi’s victory was built on compact defensive lines and quick recovery of possession. Their midfield screened the back four effectively, making it difficult for Adama City to find space between the lines. When the home side won the ball, they moved it forward with purpose and looked to create overloads in wide areas. Adama City defended resolutely for much of the game but struggled to generate sustained pressure until the closing stages, by which point Negele Arsi were content to manage the clock and protect their lead.

Standout performers

The goalscorer deserved credit for intelligent movement and composure in the decisive moment, while Negele Arsi’s goalkeeper made important interventions during Adama City’s late push. The centre-backs were commanding in the air and alert to runners in behind, and the midfield’s work rate helped the hosts win the battle for second balls. For Adama City, the goalkeeper kept the scoreline close with several saves, and their defence showed resilience under pressure, but the team lacked the final-third quality needed to find an equaliser.

What the result means

The win gives Negele Arsi three important points in the Ethiopia Premier League standings and reinforces their ability to grind out results in tight matches. A clean sheet will be particularly satisfying for the coaching staff, as it reflects the team’s defensive discipline and game management. Adama City will take some encouragement from their late pressure but must improve their attacking output in away fixtures. Both sides now turn their attention to the next round, with Negele Arsi looking to build momentum and Adama City seeking a response.
