Ethio Electric FC claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sheger Ketema in their Ethiopia Premier League clash under the floodlights in Addis Ababa. A single second-half goal proved enough to separate the two sides in a tense, tactical encounter that was short on clear-cut chances but rich in commitment and midfield battles.

A Tight Derby Settled by One Moment

Ethio Electric FC and Sheger Ketema arrived with different priorities but produced the kind of contest that reflected the growing competitiveness of the Ethiopia Premier League. Electric looked compact from the opening whistle, while Sheger Ketema tried to impose themselves through patient possession and quick switches of play.

The first half was played at a high tempo but with little space in the final third. Both teams pressed aggressively, forcing rushed passes and limiting clean strikes on goal. Ethio Electric’s best early openings came from set pieces, while Sheger Ketema threatened on the counter through their wide players. The breakthrough, when it came, was fittingly scrappy — a goal born from persistence rather than flair.

How the Match Unfolded

After a cagey opening, Ethio Electric began to find joy down the right side, winning a series of corners and throw-ins deep in Sheger territory. Sheger Ketema’s goalkeeper was called into action twice before the interval, once smothering a low drive at the near post and later punching clear under pressure.

Sheger Ketema had their moments too. A fierce drive from distance forced a diving save midway through the first half, and a glancing header from a free kick drifted just wide of the far post. But the final ball lacked precision, and Ethio Electric’s centre-backs dealt comfortably with most deliveries into the box.

The decisive moment arrived just before the hour mark. Ethio Electric worked the ball into the penalty area after a short corner, and a low cross was turned home from close range amid a scramble of bodies. The stadium erupted as the home players celebrated a goal their growing control had deserved.

Key Moments

• First-half save: Ethio Electric’s goalkeeper reacted sharply to deny Sheger Ketema from the edge of the box, preserving parity at a crucial stage.
• The breakthrough: A well-worked short corner led to the only goal of the game, finished calmly from inside the six-yard area.
• Late resistance: Sheger Ketema pushed bodies forward in the final 15 minutes, but a goal-line clearance and a fingertip save kept the clean sheet intact.
• Discipline under pressure: Ethio Electric defended deep without losing shape, blocking crosses and clearing their lines when required.

Tactical Story

Ethio Electric set up in a disciplined 4-2-3-1, with the double pivot protecting the back four and the wide attackers dropping into midfield without the ball. That structure frustrated Sheger Ketema, who saw plenty of possession in harmless areas but struggled to break through the central block. When Sheger did find space wide, Ethio Electric’s full-backs closed quickly and forced deliveries from deeper positions.

Sheger Ketema’s 4-3-3 looked more expansive in the second half, with the full-backs pushing higher and the midfield rotating to create overloads. The change increased their territorial control but left gaps behind, and Ethio Electric nearly doubled the lead on the counter. In the end, the home side’s game management — slowing the tempo, winning fouls, and keeping the ball in the corners — proved decisive.

Standout Performers

Ethio Electric’s goalkeeper deserves credit for a composed display, making two important saves and commanding his area well. The centre-back pairing was equally impressive, winning aerial duels and stepping out to intercept passes before Sheger’s attackers could turn. In midfield, the captain set the tone with relentless pressing and smart positional discipline.

For Sheger Ketema, the central midfielder was their most creative outlet, repeatedly linking play and trying to unlock the defence with through balls. Their left winger also caused problems in one-on-one situations, but the final product was missing on an evening when clear chances were at a premium.

What the Result Means

The three points lift Ethio Electric FC into a more comfortable position in the Ethiopia Premier League standings and extend their encouraging run of defensive form. A clean sheet at home is always valuable, and the manner of the victory — grinding out a narrow win rather than relying on a burst of goals — will please the coaching staff.

Sheger Ketema leave with frustration but not humiliation. They matched their opponents for long spells and showed enough attacking intent to suggest better results are close. In a league where aw
