Adama City claimed a valuable 1-0 away victory over Ethio Electric FC in the Ethiopia Premier League, with a late goal settling a tense, evenly matched contest in Addis Ababa.

The match looked destined for a draw until the closing stages, when Adama City found the one moment of genuine quality required to break down a determined Ethio Electric defence.

Match overview

Both sides began cautiously, prioritising defensive shape over attacking risk. Ethio Electric, playing in front of their home supporters, looked to build patiently from the back and use their wide midfielders to stretch the Adama City back line.

Adama City, by contrast, were content to sit slightly deeper, absorb pressure and attack through quick transitions. It was a cautious game for long spells, with few clear chances and a lot of midfield duels.

Key moments

• 21' – Ethio Electric's best chance of the first half, a shot from the edge of the area, flashes just past the post.
• 44' – Adama City's forward is denied by a strong save at the near post after a quick break.
• 58' – A goalmouth scramble in the Adama City box ends with the ball hooked clear off the line.
• 76' – Adama City force a series of corners and finally make one count.
• 78' – The decisive goal arrives, a header from a deep cross that beats the goalkeeper at the far post.
• 90+4' – Ethio Electric's last attempt from a free-kick drifts harmlessly over the bar.

Tactical story

The game was a meeting of two well-organised sides, and for large parts it was decided by small details. Ethio Electric dominated territory in the first half but struggled to create genuine chances, largely because Adama City's midfield screen sat tight in front of the back four and forced play sideways.

Adama City's plan was built on defensive patience and set-piece threat. They committed few players forward in open play but used corners and wide free-kicks as their primary attacking weapon — and that is precisely where the winning goal came from. A well-delivered cross to the far post found an unmarked runner, and the header was directed firmly past the goalkeeper.

Ethio Electric pushed hard in the closing minutes, throwing extra bodies forward and switching to a more direct style, but Adama City's defenders held their shape and dealt with the aerial barrage competently.

Standout players

Adama City's goalscorer will take the headlines, but their central defensive pairing was equally important, winning everything in the air during the last 15 minutes. The goalkeeper also handled a series of late crosses with authority.

For Ethio Electric, the deepest midfielder was the standout performer, breaking up play repeatedly and distributing well under pressure. His side's inability to convert possession into shots on target, however, remains a recurring issue.

What it means for the table

The three points lift Adama City's momentum and provide a timely reminder of their ability to win tight away fixtures in the Ethiopia Premier League, a division where away results frequently decide final standings. For Ethio Electric, the defeat is a frustrating one — their defensive organisation was largely excellent, but a single lapse at a set piece cost them everything.

Both clubs now face important runs of fixtures, and how each responds to this result could shape the direction of their seasons.
