Parnu JK Vaprus and FC Kuressaare shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the Estonian Premium Liiga on 29 October 2026, a result that felt both useful and frustrating for two sides looking to create breathing room in a tightly packed league table. Vaprus pushed for the winner late on, but Kuressaare’s organisation and resilience earned them a point on the road.

Match overview

The game opened at a lively tempo, with Parnu JK Vaprus looking to use home advantage and force Kuressaare onto the back foot. The hosts moved the ball quickly through midfield and tried to stretch the visitors with switches of play, while Kuressaare sat compact and looked to strike in transition. Clear-cut chances were scarce in the opening half-hour, but the contest never lacked intensity.

Kuressaare took the lead in the 37th minute after a sharp counter-attack down the right. A quick exchange released space between the Vaprus centre-backs, and a low finish into the far corner silenced the home crowd. Vaprus responded before the break with a couple of deliveries into the box, but Kuressaare defended their penalty area well and went into half-time with a narrow advantage.

Key moments

Vaprus changed the rhythm after the interval, pushing their full-backs higher and committing more bodies into the final third. The equaliser arrived in the 77th minute from a set piece, as a whipped corner was met by a powerful header at the near post. That goal transformed the atmosphere and set up a tense final stretch.

Both teams had half-chances to win it. Vaprus sent several late crosses into dangerous areas, while Kuressaare nearly caught the hosts on the break in stoppage time. In the end, neither goalkeeper was beaten again, and the points were split.

Tactical story

Vaprus controlled more of the ball, but Kuressaare’s mid-block made it difficult for the home side to find clean entries into the penalty area. The visitors were content to concede possession in less dangerous zones and then spring forward through quick transitions. Vaprus’ best moments came from wide deliveries and second balls, which eventually produced the equaliser.

The draw highlighted a familiar challenge for Vaprus: plenty of territorial pressure, but not always enough penetration against a compact defence. Kuressaare, meanwhile, showed why they are difficult to break down, though they may feel they could have protected their lead more comfortably.

Standout players

Ragnar Pihelgas was central to Vaprus’ tempo in midfield, repeatedly linking play and switching the ball into wide areas. The equalising header came from Kristjan Kask, whose timing in the box gave the home side a route back into the match. For Kuressaare, goalkeeper Marten Pukk produced two important saves, including a sharp stop late in the second half.

What the point means

The Estonian Premium Liiga standings remain tight, and every point carries weight at this stage of the season. Parnu JK Vaprus will take encouragement from their response after falling behind, but they will also know that home draws against direct rivals can be costly. FC Kuressaare leave with a useful away point and another performance built on defensive discipline.
