FC Flora Tallinn survived a spirited second-half comeback from Parnu JK Vaprus to secure a 3-2 victory in the Estonian Premium Liiga on 21 September 2026, keeping the capital club firmly in the title race.

Flora appeared to be cruising after building a three-goal lead, but Vaprus struck twice in the closing stages to turn a routine evening into a nervous finale at the Sportland Arena.

Match Overview

Flora dominated possession from the first whistle, pinning Vaprus deep inside their own half. The home side’s midfield trio of Markus Poom, Vladislav Kreida and Martin Miller controlled the tempo, while full-backs Michael Lilander and Marco Lukka pushed high to stretch the visitors’ defence. Vaprus, who arrived with a compact 5-4-1 shape, struggled to keep the ball but remained dangerous on the counter through Kevin Kauber and Sander Sinilaid.

Flora registered 62% possession and 18 shots to Vaprus’s eight, but the visitors’ resilience made the final scoreline flattering to the away side. The victory moves Flora to the top of the Premium Liiga standings, while Vaprus remain in the lower half but with credit for their fighting display.

Key Moments

• 12' – 1-0 Flora: Rauno Sappinen opened the scoring with a trademark near-post finish after a slick one-two with Sergei Zenjov.
• 34' – 2-0 Flora: Markus Poom doubled the lead with a curling effort from the edge of the box that left the Vaprus goalkeeper rooted to his line.
• 67' – 3-0 Flora: Sergei Zenjov capitalised on a defensive mix-up to slot home from close range and seemingly put the result beyond doubt.
• 72' – 3-1 Vaprus: Kevin Kauber pulled one back with a powerful header from a corner, sparking a late surge from the visitors.
• 88' – 3-2 Vaprus: Sander Sinilaid set up a grandstand finish, converting a penalty after a handball appeal was upheld by the referee.

Tactical Story

Flora’s 4-2-3-1 formation allowed their creative players to drift into pockets of space between Vaprus’s midfield and defence. The hosts consistently overloaded the flanks, with Lilander and Lukka delivering early crosses that caused panic. Vaprus switched to a more aggressive 4-3-3 after the hour mark, and the change nearly paid off as Flora retreated deeper. However, Flora’s experience in game management – slowing the tempo and winning fouls – ultimately saw them over the line.

Standout Players

Rauno Sappinen was a constant menace, scoring the opener and linking play intelligently. Markus Poom dictated proceedings in midfield and capped his performance with a fine goal. For Vaprus, Kevin Kauber never stopped running and his header gave his side a lifeline, while goalkeeper Hendrik Vainu made several sharp saves to keep the score respectable.

Season Impact

The three points lift Flora to the summit of the Estonian Premium Liiga, level on points with their closest challengers but with a superior goal difference. Vaprus remain mid-table, but their second-half display will give coach Igor Prins confidence that his side can compete with the league’s elite. Flora next face a tricky away trip to Narva Trans, while Vaprus host Kuressaare in a crucial relegation six-pointer.
