Viimsi JK 0-2 JK Welco Elekter: Clinical Visitors Take All Three Points

JK Welco Elekter secured a valuable 2-0 away victory against Viimsi JK in the Estonian Esiliiga on Friday, 18 September 2026. Two second-half goals were enough to separate the sides in a match that was fiercely contested but ultimately decided by Welco’s superior efficiency in front of goal.

The first half was a cagey affair, with both teams cautious in possession and reluctant to commit too many players forward. Viimsi JK enjoyed slightly more of the ball, but they struggled to break down a disciplined Welco defence that sat deep and looked to spring counter-attacks. The best chance of the opening period fell to Viimsi’s striker, who headed over from six yards out.

Welco Breaks the Deadlock

The visitors took the lead in the 54th minute through Karl-Erik Saks, who reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box after a goalmouth scramble. It was a scrappy goal, but it gave Welco a crucial advantage and forced Viimsi to push more players forward.

As the home side committed bodies in search of an equaliser, Welco found more space on the counter. In the 78th minute, Martin Thomson doubled the lead with a composed finish after being played through one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Viimsi’s defence appealed for offside, but the goal stood.

Late Pressure Not Enough for Viimsi

Viimsi threw everything forward in the final 10 minutes, forcing a series of corners and long throw-ins. Welco’s goalkeeper produced a stunning save in the 85th minute to deny a close-range header, and the defence cleared another effort off the line in stoppage time. Despite their pressure, Viimsi could not find a way back into the game.

Tactical Story: Discipline and Counter-Attacking

Welco Elekter’s 4-2-3-1 formation was designed to absorb pressure and hit on the break. Their two holding midfielders protected the back four effectively, and the front four were quick to transition when possession was won. Viimsi, playing a 4-3-3, dominated the ball but lacked penetration in the final third, often resorting to hopeful crosses that were easily dealt with.

The game highlighted the importance of taking chances. Viimsi had 14 shots to Welco’s 8, but only three were on target. Welco, by contrast, scored with two of their four shots on target.

Standout Players

• Karl-Erik Saks (Welco): Opened the scoring and worked tirelessly in midfield.
• Martin Thomson (Welco): Scored the decisive second goal and caused problems with his pace.
• Welco goalkeeper: Made two vital saves to preserve the clean sheet.
• Viimsi JK captain: Tried to drive his team forward but was well marshalled by Welco’s defence.

Esiliiga Table Impact

The win lifts JK Welco Elekter into the promotion playoff places, giving their season a significant boost. Viimsi JK remain in the lower half of the table and will need to improve their finishing if they are to climb away from danger. Welco’s next fixture is at home to Levadia U21, while Viimsi travel to Flora U21.
