Yate Town and Frome Town played out a breathless 3-3 draw in the English Southern Football League on 3 October 2026, a result that left both sides with plenty to admire and just as much to regret.

At Lodge Road, the two teams traded blows in a contest that swung one way and then the other. Yate Town looked in command for long spells, but Frome Town’s resilience and counter-attacking threat kept the match alive until the final whistle.

Match Overview

Yate started brightly and took the game to Frome with quick passing through the middle. The visitors, however, were dangerous whenever they won the ball back, repeatedly attacking the space behind Yate’s advanced full-backs. The first half alone produced three goals, and the second half delivered three more moments of drama.

Frome twice fought back from losing positions before taking the lead late on, only for Yate to rescue a point with a late equaliser. The draw will feel like a point gained for Frome and two dropped for Yate, whose dominance in possession was not fully reflected on the scoreboard.

Key Moments

• 8th minute – Yate Town 1-0: Ollie Mehew pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired home from close range.
• 23rd minute – Frome Town equalise: James Ollis finished a sweeping counter-attack with a composed strike into the bottom corner.
• 41st minute – Yate Town 2-1: Nick Peare headed in from a deep cross, restoring Yate’s advantage before half-time.
• 55th minute – Frome Town equalise again: Rex Mannings curled a superb effort beyond the goalkeeper after cutting in from the left.
• 72nd minute – Frome Town 3-2: Marcus Day turned in a low cross at the near post to put the visitors ahead for the first time.
• 88th minute – Yate Town 3-3: Joe Hall smashed in a late equaliser after Frome failed to clear a corner.

Tactical Story

Yate Town’s game plan revolved around controlling possession and overloading the wide areas, which created a steady stream of crosses and set-piece opportunities. Their problem was managing Frome’s transitions. Every time Yate lost the ball in advanced areas, Frome looked capable of scoring.

Frome Town defended deep but broke forward with purpose, often using three or four passes to turn defence into attack. Their willingness to commit bodies forward made the game chaotic, and Yate’s back line struggled to pick up runners in the second half. In the end, both managers will focus on defensive discipline after a match that produced six goals.

Standout Players

Ollie Mehew was a constant menace for Yate Town, linking play and setting the tone with an early goal. Joe Hall’s late equaliser showed composure under pressure. For Frome Town, James Ollis and Rex Mannings were outstanding in transition, while Marcus Day’s movement caused problems all afternoon.

Season Impact

The draw keeps both clubs in the chasing pack of the Southern Football League, but the manner of the result could shape their next few weeks. Yate Town will need to tighten up defensively if they are to turn possession into consistent wins. Frome Town, by contrast, will take confidence from twice coming from behind and briefly leading away from home. The head-to-head record between the sides remains finely balanced, and a rematch later in the season already looks like one to watch.
