Warrington Rylands 5-1 Curzon Ashton: Five-Star Rylands Run Riot at Gorsey Lane

Warrington Rylands produced one of the most emphatic performances of their English Northern Premier League season on October 14, 2026, thrashing Curzon Ashton 5-1 at Gorsey Lane. A first-half blitz set the tone, and Rylands never looked back, scoring five goals in a display that underlined their attacking quality and ruthless finishing.

Curzon Ashton arrived with hopes of frustrating the hosts, but they were undone by Rylands’ pressing, movement, and clinical edge in front of goal. The result sends a clear message to the rest of the division: on their day, Rylands can overwhelm anyone.

First-Half Blitz Sets the Tone

Rylands were ahead inside seven minutes when Ben Hardcastle latched onto a through ball and calmly slotted past the goalkeeper. The home crowd barely had time to settle before Joe Piggott doubled the lead in the 19th minute, finishing neatly after a slick passing move.

Piggott added his second in the 33rd minute, punishing Curzon for a defensive mistake, and although Josh Galloway pulled one back for the visitors in the 41st minute, the momentum remained firmly with Rylands. The half-time whistle brought little relief for Curzon, who had been overwhelmed for long spells.

Key Moments

• 7th minute: Ben Hardcastle opens the scoring with a composed finish.
• 19th minute: Joe Piggott makes it 2-0 after a flowing team move.
• 33rd minute: Piggott strikes again, punishing a loose defensive pass.
• 41st minute: Josh Galloway gives Curzon a lifeline with a low shot.
• 58th minute: Kane Drummond restores Rylands’ three-goal cushion.
• 74th minute: Hardcastle completes the rout with his second of the night.

Tactical Story

Rylands’ high press was the foundation of the win. They won the ball back quickly in midfield and attacked with pace, often isolating Curzon’s full-backs. Piggott and Hardcastle rotated intelligently, making it difficult for the visitors to mark them, while Drummond provided a constant threat from the right.

Curzon Ashton tried to play out from the back, but the pressure proved too much. Their consolation goal was well taken, yet it came against the run of play. In the second half, Rylands managed the game expertly, controlling possession and picking their moments to attack rather than chasing more goals recklessly.

Standout Players

Joe Piggott was the standout performer, scoring twice and linking play brilliantly. Ben Hardcastle’s brace highlighted his finishing instincts, while Kane Drummond’s energy and direct running caused problems all evening. For Curzon, Josh Galloway was the brightest spark, but he received little support.

Season Impact

The victory boosts Rylands’ goal difference and strengthens their position in the Northern Premier League table. It also builds confidence ahead of a demanding run of fixtures. Curzon Ashton, meanwhile, must regroup quickly; defeat in this manner can sting, but the response in the coming weeks will define their season.
