Hyde F.C. secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Stockton Town in the Northern Premier League on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Ewen Fields. The home side produced a composed display in front of their own supporters, taking the lead in the first half, surviving a spirited Stockton Town comeback, and then finding a late winner to claim all three points.

Match Overview

Hyde started the brighter of the two teams, pressing high and forcing Stockton Town into a series of early turnovers. The breakthrough arrived in the 18th minute when Liam Turner latched onto a low cross from the right and swept the ball past the visiting goalkeeper. Stockton Town grew into the game after the half-hour mark, using their physical front line to hold up play, but Hyde's back four remained disciplined.

The second half brought a different challenge. Stockton Town equalised in the 52nd minute through Ethan Robson, who rose highest to meet a corner and power a header into the net. That goal sparked Hyde into life again, and after a double substitution on 65 minutes, the home side regained control of midfield. The decisive moment came in the 78th minute when Jake Cassidy converted a penalty after Tom Miller was brought down inside the area.

Stockton Town favoured a direct 4-4-2, aiming to win second balls and deliver early crosses into the box. For much of the first hour, Hyde's midfield duo controlled the tempo, but Stockton's equaliser forced a rethink. The introduction of two fresh midfielders gave Hyde renewed energy, and their late pressure told when they won the decisive penalty.

Standout Players

Liam Turner was a constant threat in behind, while Jake Cassidy showed composure from the spot. In defence, Hyde's centre-back pairing dealt well with Stockton's aerial approach, and goalkeeper Sam Ashton made a crucial save at 1-1. For Stockton Town, Ethan Robson was the standout performer, driving forward from midfield and scoring the equaliser.

Table and Season Impact

The win lifts Hyde F.C. into the thick of the Northern Premier League play-off race, adding another important home victory to their seasonal record. Stockton Town remain competitive in mid-table, but they will rue missed opportunities in the final 20 minutes. With the league table tightening, three points at Ewen Fields could prove valuable come April.
