FC United of Manchester 4-2 Whitby Town: Reds Win Six-Goal Thriller at Broadhurst Park

FC United of Manchester produced an attacking performance full of rhythm and incision to beat Whitby Town 4-2 in the English Northern Premier League at Broadhurst Park. Jack Rimmer scored twice, while Charlie Ennis and Luke Griffiths also found the net in a game that swung back and forth before the hosts pulled clear late on.

Whitby contributed fully to an entertaining contest, scoring through Brad Fewster and Junior Mondal and threatening a comeback when they trimmed the deficit to 3-2. But FC United’s pressing game and superior energy in the final stages proved decisive in front of a lively home crowd.

Match Overview

The Reds began on the front foot, pressing Whitby’s defence and forcing errors in the opening exchanges. Their early dominance was rewarded inside nine minutes when Rimmer finished a flowing move down the right. FC United doubled their advantage just before the half-hour when Ennis arrived late in the box to convert a low cross.

Whitby responded well and pulled one back before half-time through Fewster, whose movement in the penalty area caused problems throughout. That goal changed the mood of the game, and Whitby began the second half with more purpose before FC United reasserted control.

Key Moments

• 9th minute: FC United took the lead when Rimmer swept home from the edge of the box after a quick exchange on the right.
• 28th minute: Ennis made it 2-0, arriving at the back post to finish a measured cross.

Tactical Story

FC United set up in a 4-3-3 and used their wide forwards aggressively, asking them to press Whitby’s full-backs and cut off passing lanes into midfield. The approach created repeated turnovers in promising areas, and the hosts were quick to convert those moments into shots and crosses.

Whitby’s best spells came when they bypassed the first press and got the ball into their strikers early. Their two goals were examples of that direct approach, but they struggled to sustain pressure for long periods. FC United’s midfield trio controlled the second half, and the introduction of fresh legs helped the Reds finish the game strongly.

Standout Performers

Rimmer was the standout attacking player, with two goals and a constant willingness to run in behind. Ennis dictated play from midfield and capped his performance with a goal, while Griffiths made an impact from the bench. For Whitby, Fewster’s movement and Mondal’s direct running were the main positives on a difficult afternoon.

Table and Season Impact

The three points give FC United a timely boost in the Northern Premier League standings and strengthen their position in the race for the playoff places. Whitby will take encouragement from their fighting spirit but will be concerned by the ease with which they conceded possession in dangerous areas. With the season beginning to take shape, this was the kind of high-scoring home win that can build momentum.
