Curzon Ashton 2-0 Hyde: Clinical Curzon Claim Derby Bragging Rights

Curzon Ashton FC secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Hyde F.C. in the English Northern Premier League on Saturday, 10 October 2026. The home side were sharper from the opening whistle and rarely looked like surrendering control, producing a performance built on defensive discipline, intelligent pressing and two well-taken goals in front of a lively crowd.

Match Overview

Curzon Ashton set the tone early, pressing Hyde high up the pitch and forcing the visitors into hurried clearances. The hosts dominated possession in the first half and created the better chances, with their midfield trio consistently winning second balls and feeding the wide players in dangerous areas. Hyde tried to respond through quick counter-attacks, but the Curzon back line stayed compact and alert.

The breakthrough arrived in the 34th minute when Liam Nolan rose highest from a corner and glanced a header into the far corner. Hyde goalkeeper made two important saves before half-time to keep the deficit at one, but Curzon always looked the more likely side to score again.

Key Moments

• 34th minute – Curzon Ashton 1-0: Liam Nolan powered home a header from a well-delivered corner, giving the home side a deserved lead.
• 58th minute: Hyde’s best chance of the match fell to their striker on the edge of the box, but Curzon goalkeeper stood tall and palmed the effort away.
• 78th minute – Curzon Ashton 2-0: Ethan Cartwright sealed the win, finishing calmly after a swift counter-attack down the right.
• 90th minute: Curzon saw out four minutes of stoppage time without panic, preserving a valuable clean sheet.

Tactical Story

Curzon Ashton lined up in a flexible 4-2-3-1, with the front four rotating constantly to pull Hyde’s defenders out of position. Their midfield double pivot screened the back line effectively and allowed the full-backs to push forward. Hyde, by contrast, struggled to build through the middle and often resorted to long balls that Curzon’s centre-backs dealt with comfortably.

After the break, Hyde pushed more bodies forward and enjoyed a short spell of pressure, but Curzon’s game management was excellent. They slowed the tempo when needed, won fouls in useful areas and then struck the decisive second goal on the counter. It was a mature performance from a side that looks increasingly comfortable in the Northern Premier League.

Standout Players

Liam Nolan was the obvious match-winner, not only for his goal but for his hold-up play and defensive work from set pieces. Ethan Cartwright’s energy and composure in the final third made him a constant threat, while Curzon’s captain at centre-back organized the back four superbly. For Hyde, their goalkeeper kept the score respectable with a string of saves, but the visitors lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

League Table Impact

The three points strengthen Curzon Ashton’s position in the Northern Premier League standings and add momentum to their push for a playoff place. Hyde, meanwhile, are left to reflect on a frustrating away day in which they competed well in patches but were undone by two moments of quality. The result also gives Curzon local bragging rights and a useful head-to-head advantage should the two sides finish close together later in the season.
