Their midfield two worked tirelessly to win second balls, and the front pair stretched Heaton’s back line with intelligent runs. The home side also looked dangerous from set pieces, delivering several quality crosses into the box.

Heaton Stannington favoured a more direct approach, looking to hit long balls into the channels and feed off knock-downs. It worked in patches, especially in the second half, but they struggled to sustain pressure. West Auckland’s back four dealt well with the aerial threat and stepped up to catch Heaton offside on multiple occasions.

Standout players

West Auckland’s striker was the pick of the bunch, scoring twice and holding the ball up effectively. The right winger was a constant threat, delivering the cross for the opener and stretching the defence throughout. In midfield, the captain controlled the tempo and broke up several Heaton attacks.

For Heaton Stannington, the substitute who won and scored the penalty gave his side a lift. Their goalkeeper also made a string of saves to keep the scoreline respectable, including a fine stop in the first half when the game was still 1-0.

League impact

Three points lifts West Auckland Town into a stronger position in the Northern League Division One standings. The win extends their positive home form and gives them momentum heading into the next round of fixtures. Heaton Stannington remain competitive but will be frustrated by their inability to build on the penalty goal.

The result also highlights West Auckland’s attacking depth. If they can maintain this level of performance, they look capable of pushing for a higher finish. Heaton, meanwhile, must tighten up defensively if they are to climb the table.
