St Ives Town 0-1 Nuneaton Borough – A late goal from Nuneaton Borough striker Amadou Sanogo condemned St Ives Town to a narrow 1-0 defeat in their English Northern League Division One encounter at the Quattro Tech Stadium. The visitors defended resiliently and struck against the run of play to snatch all three points.

Match Overview

St Ives Town dominated possession and created the better chances, but they were repeatedly thwarted by a combination of poor finishing and an inspired goalkeeping display from Nuneaton's Dan Crane. The game looked destined for a goalless draw until Sanogo pounced in the 78th minute, converting a rare Nuneaton counter-attack. The home side pushed hard for an equaliser but could not find a way through.

• 33' – Dan Crane makes a brilliant double save to deny Wilson and then Tom Knowles.
• 58' – Nuneaton's best chance of the first hour: Sanogo heads over from a corner.
• 78' – GOAL! Sanogo latches onto a long ball, rounds the keeper, and slots into an empty net.
• 90+2' – St Ives' last chance: a header from a corner is cleared off the line.

Tactical Story

St Ives set up in a 4-3-3, looking to use the width of their full-backs to stretch Nuneaton's defence. However, Nuneaton sat deep in a compact 4-4-2, inviting pressure and looking to hit on the break. The visitors' midfield duo of Liam Daly and Jordan Richards worked tirelessly to shield the back four. As St Ives pushed more men forward in the second half, gaps appeared, and Nuneaton exploited one with a direct long ball for the winning goal.

Standout Players

Dan Crane (Nuneaton): The goalkeeper was the hero, making five saves, including two outstanding stops. Amadou Sanogo (Nuneaton): Took his goal clinically and held the ball up well. Dylan Wilson (St Ives): Always a threat but wasteful in front of goal. Liam Daly (Nuneaton): A commanding display at the heart of defence, winning everything in the air.

Table and Season Impact

The win lifts Nuneaton Borough into the top half of the Northern League Division One table, giving their season a much-needed boost. For St Ives Town, it is a case of two points dropped at home, and they remain in mid-table, frustrated by their inability to convert dominance into goals.

What's Next

St Ives will need to rediscover their scoring touch quickly, while Nuneaton will be buoyed by a hard-fought away win.
