Garforth Town A.F.C. fought back from two goals down to earn a dramatic 2-2 draw against Lincoln United in Northern League Division One on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. Lincoln looked in control after a dominant first half, but Garforth’s second-half response turned the game into a thriller.

Match overview

Lincoln United started the brighter and took the lead inside the first 15 minutes with a crisp finish. They doubled their advantage before the half-hour mark, punishing Garforth for a defensive lapse. At that stage, the visitors looked comfortable and appeared likely to take all three points.

Garforth Town returned for the second half with far more urgency. A tactical adjustment gave them a foothold in midfield, and they pulled a goal back just before the hour. The equaliser arrived late on, sparking wild celebrations and completing an impressive comeback.

Key moments

• 12th minute: Lincoln United take the lead with a low shot from the edge of the box after a quick break.
• 34th minute: Lincoln double their advantage, heading in from a corner as Garforth failed to clear.
• 57th minute: Garforth pull one back, finishing a flowing move with a first-time strike.
• 81st minute: Garforth equalise through a substitute, who turned in a cross from close range.

Tactical story

Garforth Town began in a 4-3-3 but struggled to cope with Lincoln’s midfield overloads. At half-time, the manager switched to a back three and pushed the wing-backs higher. That change gave Garforth extra width and allowed them to pin Lincoln back for long spells.

Lincoln United had been effective on the counter in the first half, but they dropped deeper after the break. Their midfield line sat too close to the defence, inviting pressure. Garforth took full advantage, delivering cross after cross and eventually finding the equaliser. Lincoln’s late attempts to regain the lead lacked the same precision they had shown earlier.

Standout players

Garforth’s substitute made the difference, scoring the equaliser and adding energy in the final third. The captain also drove his team forward with a determined second-half performance, while the goalkeeper made a vital save at 2-0 to keep the comeback alive.

For Lincoln United, the striker who scored the opener was a constant threat in the first half, and the centre-back was strong in the air for much of the game. However, Lincoln’s midfield tired, and their inability to keep possession in the second half proved costly.

League impact

The draw leaves both sides with mixed emotions. Garforth Town will take huge encouragement from their character and second-half display, while Lincoln United will feel two points slipped away. In the Northern League Division One table, every point matters, and this result keeps Garforth’s unbeaten run intact while Lincoln remain in search of a complete 90-minute performance.

Garforth’s next fixture will test whether they can start games with the same intensity they showed after half-time. Lincoln, meanwhile, must learn to protect a lead if they are to challenge at the top end of the division.
