Yeovil Town 1-2 Altrincham: Visitors Take All Three Points in National League

Altrincham secured a 2-1 away victory over Yeovil Town in the English National League on 24 October 2026, scoring either side of a Yeovil response to claim a valuable three points at Huish Park.

Final score: Yeovil Town 1, Altrincham 2

Match overview

Altrincham made the brighter start and took the lead in the 22nd minute when a quick exchange on the edge of the box opened space for a low finish into the bottom corner. Yeovil Town struggled to find rhythm in the first half, with Altrincham’s compact midfield limiting space in central areas.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 49th minute, again striking early in a half. A patient passing move ended with a cross from the right that was converted at the back post. Yeovil responded well and pulled one back in the 71st minute through a header from a corner, setting up a tense finale. The home side pushed bodies forward in the closing stages, but Altrincham defended their box well and held on for the win.

Key moments

• Altrincham took the lead in the 22nd minute with a low finish after a neat edge-of-the-box exchange.
• The visitors made it 2-0 in the 49th minute with a back-post finish from a right-sided cross.
• Yeovil Town halved the deficit in the 71st minute with a header from a corner.
• Yeovil pressed for an equaliser late on, but Altrincham’s centre-backs cleared several dangerous deliveries.

Tactical story

Altrincham set up in a compact 4-2-3-1 shape and looked to break quickly when they won possession. Their midfield screened the defence well, forcing Yeovil into wide areas and limiting clear sight of goal. The visitors’ two-goal cushion allowed them to sit deeper after the break and invite pressure, relying on disciplined defending and quick counter-attacks.

Yeovil Town had plenty of the ball in the second half and used their width to deliver crosses, one of which produced their goal. However, they lacked the final quality to break down a well-organised Altrincham back line. The substitutions gave Yeovil more energy, but Altrincham’s game management in the final 10 minutes was excellent.

Standout performers and table impact

Altrincham’s midfield anchor and centre-backs were central to the result, while their forward’s movement caused problems throughout. Yeovil’s goalkeeper made a couple of important saves to keep the score at 2-1, but the home side will be disappointed with the timing of the goals conceded. The three points give Altrincham a timely boost in the National League standings and strengthen their away record. Yeovil Town, meanwhile, must find greater consistency at home if they are to climb the table.
