Sutton United and Forest Green Rovers played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Gander Green Lane in the English National League on September 26, 2026. The six-goal spectacle was a testament to the attacking quality on display, with both sides squandering leads in a breathless encounter.

Match Overview

The match was an end-to-end affair from the first minute, with neither defence able to assert control. Forest Green twice took the lead, only for Sutton to equalise each time before the home side edged ahead in the second half. Just when it seemed Sutton would claim all three points, Forest Green struck late to salvage a share of the spoils. It was a fair result in a game that swung both ways.

Tactical Story

Both teams adopted attacking formations, with Sutton in a 4-3-3 and Forest Green in a 3-4-1-2. The midfield areas were left open, leading to a frantic pace and numerous chances. Sutton's wingers caused problems with their direct running, while Forest Green's front two of Matt and Stevens were a handful in the air. Defensively, both sides were guilty of ball-watching and poor marking, which contributed to the high score.

Standout Players

Omar Bugiel was Sutton's hero, scoring twice and leading the line with energy. Enzio Boldewijn also impressed with his trickery and goal. For Forest Green, Matty Stevens was equally influential, netting a brace and holding the ball up well. Jamille Matt's early header set the tone for an open contest.

Season Impact

The draw leaves both teams in mid-table, with Sutton and Forest Green separated by just one point. While a point apiece does little to boost their promotion hopes, the entertainment value was high. Both managers will be concerned about their defensive vulnerabilities as the season progresses.
