Boreham Wood secured a convincing 2-0 away win at Sutton United in the English National League on Saturday, 10 October 2026, extending their unbeaten run and piling more pressure on the hosts. Two second-half goals were enough to separate the sides in a match that Boreham Wood controlled for long periods.

Match Overview

Sutton United started brightly, pressing high and forcing a couple of early corners, but they failed to test the Boreham Wood goalkeeper. As the first half progressed, the visitors grew into the game, dominating possession and creating the better chances. The breakthrough came shortly after half-time, and once Boreham Wood had the lead, they never looked like surrendering it. Sutton struggled to create clear-cut opportunities and were punished for a lack of cutting edge.

Key Moments

• 49th minute: Boreham Wood take the lead. A low cross from the right is turned in at the near post by Tyrone Marsh.
• 63rd minute: Sutton’s best chance. A header from a free-kick clips the top of the crossbar.
• 74th minute: Boreham Wood double the advantage. Dennis Ogunleye latches onto a loose ball and fires into the bottom corner from 18 yards.
• 88th minute: Sutton push forward but are met by a wall of Boreham Wood defenders, who block two goal-bound efforts.

Tactical Story

Boreham Wood set up in a disciplined 4-4-2, with their midfield sitting deep to deny Sutton space between the lines. The visitors pressed intelligently, forcing Sutton into sideways passes and then winning the ball back in dangerous areas. Sutton’s manager tried to change things by switching to a back three and throwing on extra attackers, but the move left them exposed at the back, and Boreham Wood exploited the space for the second goal. The visitors’ game management in the final 15 minutes was exemplary, slowing the tempo and keeping possession.

Standout Players

Tyrone Marsh was a constant thorn in Sutton’s side, not only for his goal but for his tireless running and hold-up play. Dennis Ogunleye made an impact from the bench with a well-taken goal. In defence, Boreham Wood’s captain was a colossus, winning every aerial duel and organising the back line. For Sutton, their goalkeeper made several fine saves to keep the score down, but the attacking players struggled to make an impression against a resolute defence.

Standings and Season Impact

The three points move Boreham Wood into a stronger position in the English National League playoff race, while Sutton United remain in mid-table, still searching for consistency. This result will give Boreham Wood confidence for the tough fixtures ahead, and it underlines their credentials as genuine promotion contenders. Sutton, on the other hand, need to find a way to turn promising spells into goals if they are to climb the table.
