Match overview

• Result: AFC Fylde 3-1 Hartlepool United
• Competition: English National League
• Date: 28 October 2026
• Venue: Mill Farm

Fylde were on the front foot from the opening whistle, pressing Hartlepool’s defenders and forcing turnovers in dangerous areas. The opener arrived inside the first quarter of an hour after a slick move down the right ended with a composed finish. Fylde doubled their lead before half-time when a loose ball fell kindly at the edge of the box and was drilled low into the corner. The third goal arrived shortly after the restart, effectively ending the contest as a competitive spectacle, though Hartlepool continued to fight and got a consolation goal with less than ten minutes remaining.

Key moments

The first goal set the tone: Fylde won the ball high, moved it quickly and finished with confidence. Hartlepool’s best spell came just before half-time, but they could not convert a pair of half-chances. The second Fylde goal was a sucker punch, arriving in the 38th minute after sustained pressure. Early in the second half, Fylde made it 3-0 with a well-worked team goal, and from there the home side managed the tempo. Hartlepool’s late reply came from a set-piece scramble, but it was no more than a consolation.

Tactical story

Fylde’s aggressive pressing was the foundation of the win. They denied Hartlepool time on the ball in central areas and forced long passes that were comfortably dealt with by the back line. In possession, Fylde used width effectively, stretching the visitors and creating space for late runs into the box. Hartlepool improved after making substitutions, switching to a more direct approach and finding some joy down the flanks, but the game had already slipped away.

Standout performers

Fylde’s attacking midfielder was at the heart of most good things, linking play and arriving in the box at the right moments. The wide forward on the right caused persistent problems with direct running, while the central defender won his aerial battles and snuffed out Hartlepool’s attempts to build momentum. For Hartlepool, the substitute forward made a positive impact and took his consolation goal well, but too many of his teammates were below their best in the first hour.

What the result means

The three points give AFC Fylde momentum in the National League and reinforce their home form as a platform for the season. Hartlepool, meanwhile, are left to reflect on a defensive display that conceded soft goals at key moments. With the table tightening, Hartlepool need to find consistency quickly, while Fylde can look ahead with confidence after a complete team performance.
