Altrincham came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over AFC Fylde at Mill Farm on Saturday evening, extending their encouraging run in the National League with a composed and clinical away performance.

The visitors fell behind inside the opening quarter of an hour but responded with real authority, equalising before the break and then controlling large stretches of the second half to secure three points that strengthen their position in the upper reaches of the table.

Match Overview

AFC Fylde made the brighter start in front of their home support, pressing high and forcing Altrincham into a series of early clearances. The pressure told in the 17th minute when Nick Haughton curled a trademark free-kick beyond the reach of the Altrincham goalkeeper to give the Coasters a deserved lead.

Altrincham gradually settled, however, and began to find space in the channels behind Fylde's advanced full-backs. The equaliser arrived six minutes before half-time, Regan Linney latching onto a clever through ball before finishing calmly across the goalkeeper. From that moment, the visitors looked the more likely side to score again.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Altrincham dominating possession and Fylde relying on counter-attacks. The decisive moment came in the 64th minute when Chris Conn-Clarke drove forward from midfield and unleashed a low strike from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner. Fylde pushed for a late leveller, but Altrincham's back three held firm under a series of crosses.

Key Moments

• 17' — Nick Haughton opens the scoring with a precise free-kick for AFC Fylde.
• 39' — Regan Linney equalises for Altrincham after a slick passing move.
• 64' — Chris Conn-Clarke fires Altrincham ahead with a low drive from distance.
• 84' — Danny Ormerod's header is cleared off the line as Fylde chase an equaliser.
• 90+4' — Altrincham goalkeeper claims a deep cross to snuff out the final Fylde attack.

Tactical Story

Altrincham's midfield trio proved the difference, pressing intelligently to disrupt Fylde's rhythm after the opening 20 minutes. By pushing their wing-backs high and narrowing the central spaces, they forced the hosts into long diagonal passes that were comfortably dealt with by the visiting defence.

Fylde's best moments came from set pieces and quick transitions, but they struggled to sustain pressure once Altrincham took the lead. The introduction of fresh legs from the bench helped the visitors see out the closing stages with relative comfort.

Standout Players

Regan Linney was a constant menace in behind, and his well-taken goal changed the mood of the contest. Chris Conn-Clarke grew into the game after the interval, and his willingness to drive at defenders ultimately produced the winning goal. For Fylde, Nick Haughton was the standout performer, combining set-piece quality with creative passing in the final third.

Season Impact

The win keeps Altrincham firmly in the conversation for a play-off push, while AFC Fylde remain in need of greater consistency if they are to climb away from the lower half of the National League table. The Coasters will look to respond quickly when they travel next weekend, while Altrincham return home with confidence high.
