Takeley 2-4 Redbridge: Six-Goal Thriller Ends in Away Joy

Redbridge put on a ruthless attacking display at Station Road to beat Takeley 4-2 in an entertaining Isthmian League One contest on Wednesday night. The visitors scored twice in each half, withstanding a spirited Takeley comeback to claim all three points in a match that swung from end to end.

The game started at a high tempo, with both sides pressing and looking to attack. Redbridge’s finishing proved the difference, as they converted their clearest chances while Takeley were left to rue defensive mistakes and missed opportunities.

Match Overview

Takeley began with a bold 4-3-3, looking to press Redbridge high and force errors. It worked in flashes, but Redbridge’s front three were devastating on the break. The visitors took an early lead and then doubled it before Takeley responded. After the interval, the home side made it 2-3 and briefly threatened an equaliser, but Redbridge restored their two-goal cushion and controlled the closing stages.

Key Moments

• 9th minute: Redbridge opened the scoring with a low drive from the edge of the box after a quick exchange of passes.
• 27th minute: A second Redbridge goal followed a Takeley giveaway in midfield; the forward rounded the keeper and finished into an empty net.
• 41st minute: Takeley pulled one back with a header from a deep cross.
• 58th minute: Redbridge made it 3-1, finishing a counter-attack with a first-time shot.
• 66th minute: Takeley scored again, a penalty converted confidently to set up a tense finale.
• 82nd minute: Redbridge sealed the win with a fourth goal, a curling effort into the far corner.

Tactical Story

Redbridge’s ability to transition from defence to attack in seconds was the story of the night. They sat in a compact 4-4-2 out of possession, invited Takeley forward, and then exploited the space behind the full-backs. Takeley’s high line was repeatedly punished, and although they created chances of their own, their lack of cover in midfield left them exposed. Redbridge’s decision to slow the game down after their fourth goal showed maturity.

Standout Players

Redbridge’s centre-forward was the star, scoring twice and linking play intelligently. Their right winger tormented Takeley all evening and added a goal and an assist. Takeley’s captain drove his team forward and scored the penalty, while their goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score from becoming more lopsided.

Season Impact

Redbridge’s emphatic away win strengthens their position in the Isthmian League One and sends a warning to rivals about their attacking power. Takeley, meanwhile, remain capable of scoring goals but must tighten up defensively if they are to climb the table. The six-goal spectacle was a reminder of how unpredictable and exciting the division can be.
