Sheppey United and Broadbridge Heath played out a 1-1 draw in the English Isthmian League One on October 14, 2026, sharing the points after a tightly contested midweek encounter at Holm Park.

The hosts looked the more purposeful side for long spells, but Broadbridge Heath’s resilience and a well-taken second-half equaliser ensured the visitors left with something to show for their efforts. It was a result that underlined the competitive nature of the Isthmian League One, where fine margins often decide whether a team climbs the standings or remains in the chasing pack.

Match Overview

Sheppey United began with intent, pressing high and forcing Broadbridge Heath into a series of early defensive actions. The home side’s 4-2-3-1 system allowed the wide players to stretch the opposition full-backs, and the early pressure eventually told when Charlie Owen found space inside the penalty area and finished calmly to make it 1-0.

Broadbridge Heath, organised in a 4-4-2, responded by tightening the midfield and looking to spring quick counters. They grew into the game after the half-hour mark and created two half-chances before the interval, but Sheppey’s goalkeeper Matt Day was equal to the task.

Key Moments

• 18th minute: Sheppey United take the lead as Charlie Owen latches onto a through ball and slots past the goalkeeper.
• 34th minute: Broadbridge Heath force a smart save from Matt Day after a header from a corner.
• 57th minute: The visitors equalise when Lewis Grant meets a low cross at the near post and guides it home.
• 82nd minute: Sheppey substitute Jordan Miles curls a shot narrowly wide as the hosts push for a winner.
• 90+3: A late scramble in the Broadbridge Heath box ends with the ball cleared, confirming the draw.

Tactical Story

Sheppey’s main threat came from wide areas, with their full-backs pushing high to create overloads. However, Broadbridge Heath’s midfield duo sat deeper after the break, cutting off the passing lanes into the forward line. The visitors also became more direct, using their striker as a focal point to bring runners into play. That adjustment paid off with the equaliser and helped them see out the closing stages.

Standout Players

Charlie Owen was Sheppey’s most dangerous attacker, while Lewis Grant’s movement and finish made him Broadbridge Heath’s key figure. Matt Day produced a crucial save at 1-0, and Broadbridge Heath goalkeeper Sam Weller handled several crosses well under pressure.

Table and Season Impact

The draw adds a point to both clubs’ Isthmian League One standings. Sheppey United will feel they did enough to win, but the inability to hold the lead is a reminder of how punishing the division can be. Broadbridge Heath, meanwhile, will take confidence from a disciplined away performance and a second-half response that showed character.
