At the Badgers Sports Ground, Cray Valley Paper Mills took the lead in the first half through a well-worked set-piece, but Faversham Town equalised after the break with a composed finish. Both sides pushed for a winner in the final 20 minutes, yet neither could find the decisive moment.

Match Overview

Cray Valley Paper Mills started confidently, keeping possession and probing for openings. Their breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when a corner was only half-cleared, and the loose ball was drilled back into the box and turned home from close range. Faversham responded well and had a couple of half-chances before the interval.

The second half was more open. Faversham Town equalised in the 61st minute after a quick exchange of passes released their striker through on goal. The visitors then had the better of the next 10 minutes, but Cray Valley weathered the storm and created two late opportunities of their own, both of which were saved or blocked.

Tactical Story

Cray Valley Paper Mills set up in a 4-2-3-1 and looked to dominate possession, using their full-backs to create width. They were patient in the first half and deserved their lead, but they struggled to contain Faversham’s quick transitions after the break.

Faversham Town switched to a narrower shape in the second half, allowing their central midfielders to press higher and win the ball in advanced areas. That change led to the equaliser and a strong spell of pressure. Cray Valley responded by introducing fresh legs out wide, which helped them regain a foothold and see out the draw.

Standout Players

Cray Valley’s goalkeeper made several important saves, particularly in the first half and late on, to keep the score level. Their central defender was also strong in the air, dealing with Faversham’s crosses and set-pieces.

For Faversham Town, the goalscorer was the standout performer, linking play intelligently and taking his chance well. Their captain drove the midfield with energy and nearly created a winner with a clever through-ball in the final minutes.

Season Impact

The draw keeps Cray Valley Paper Mills and Faversham Town locked in a congested Isthmian League One table, where a single win can lift a team several places. Both sides remain in the hunt for a strong finish, but they will know that converting draws into victories will be essential.

The head-to-head between the clubs remains finely balanced, and the return fixture could have added significance if they are still competing for the same positions. For now, it is a hard-earned point for each, built on organisation, resilience, and a willingness to attack when the opportunity arose.
