Real Bedford Women and Dussindale Hellesdon Women fought out a goalless 0-0 draw in the English FA Women’s Cup on 25 October 2026, as a disciplined away performance cancelled out the home side’s possession and pressure.

Real Bedford went into the tie with a reputation for ambitious, front-foot football, while Dussindale Hellesdon arrived from Norfolk determined to make the long journey count. The result was a contest of contrasting styles: patient build-up against resolute defending, with neither side able to find the decisive final touch.

Match overview

The home side saw plenty of the ball in the opening half hour, shifting it from flank to flank and looking for pockets between the lines. Dussindale Hellesdon sat deep in a well-drilled block, limiting space in behind and forcing Real Bedford to cross from wider areas. Those crosses were met with strong headers and timely blocks, and the visitors grew in confidence as the half wore on.

After the interval, Real Bedford raised the tempo and pushed more bodies forward. Dussindale responded by dropping their midfield line closer to the defence and relying on quick breaks. The game became stretched in the final 15 minutes, but both penalty areas remained well protected.

Key moments

• Real Bedford’s best chance of the first half came when a low drive from the edge of the box was pushed around the post by the Dussindale goalkeeper.
• A goalmouth scramble after a corner ended with a Dussindale defender hooking the ball clear.
• Real Bedford headed over from a free-kick midway through the second half.
• Dussindale’s forward broke clear late on but was crowded out by two recovering defenders before she could shoot.

Tactical story

Real Bedford’s 4-3-3 was built around controlled possession and overlapping full-backs, but Dussindale’s 5-4-1 shape made it difficult to play through the middle. The visitors conceded territory but not clear chances, and their compactness forced Real Bedford into increasingly early crosses.

Dussindale’s counter-attacking plan was simple but effective: win the second ball, find the wide runner, and commit numbers quickly. They did not create many openings, but their breaks relieved pressure at important moments and kept Real Bedford from committing fully to the attack.

Standout performers

Dussindale Hellesdon’s goalkeeper was the standout figure, combining safe handling with brave decision-making in her box. Real Bedford’s central midfielder dictated the rhythm and rarely gave the ball away, while the home centre-back dealt confidently with the visitors’ occasional counters.

What the result means

For Real Bedford, the frustration will be tempered by another clean sheet and a demonstration of patience. For Dussindale Hellesdon, the away performance underlined their organisation and resilience. The FA Women’s Cup tie ended level, but both sides will take confidence from the defensive solidity they showed.
