Exeter City Women 2-0 Hashtag United Women — Exeter City Women advanced in the English FA Women’s Cup with a controlled 2-0 home victory over Hashtag United Women on 25 October 2026, scoring once in each half to secure their place in the next round.

Exeter progress with a professional cup display

Cup football demands patience, and Exeter City Women delivered exactly that. The home side opened the scoring midway through the first half, managed the game intelligently after the break and added a late second goal to remove any lingering doubt. Hashtag United Women competed throughout, but Exeter’s sharper work in both boxes made the difference.

The early pattern saw Exeter dominate possession and pin Hashtag back. The visitors defended in numbers and looked to threaten on the counter, but Exeter’s midfield screened well and kept the game in front of them. The opening goal came from a well-worked attacking move, finished with composure inside the penalty area.

Key moments

• 22’ — Exeter take the lead with a composed finish after sustained pressure.
• 37’ — Hashtag force a save from Exeter’s goalkeeper with a rare counter-attack.
• 58’ — Exeter go close to doubling the lead from a set-piece.
• 84’ — Exeter seal the win with a second goal after a quick break.
• 90+2’ — Exeter clear a late Hashtag corner to confirm the clean sheet.

Tactical story: control in midfield, precision in the box

Exeter’s success was built on midfield control. Their central players circulated the ball well, switched play when necessary and ensured the team was not dragged into a chaotic cup tie. Hashtag worked hard to close space, but Exeter’s movement off the ball created enough separation to find crossing and shooting opportunities.

Without the ball, Exeter were organised and patient. They refused to overcommit when leading 1-0, which limited Hashtag’s counter-attacking chances. The second goal was the reward for that discipline: a turnover in midfield led to a rapid attack, and the finish was clinical.

Standout performers and cup impact

Exeter’s goalscorers will take the headlines, but the team’s defensive shape and goalkeeping deserved equal credit. The goalkeeper handled crosses confidently and made the one important save required, while the back line dealt with Hashtag’s late pressure without panic.

For Exeter City Women, the result is a timely boost in the FA Women’s Cup and a sign of their ability to manage knockout football. Hashtag United Women can take encouragement from spells of resilience, but the match ultimately hinged on Exeter’s greater cutting edge in the final third. A place in the next round is thoroughly deserved.
