Full-time score: Moneyfields 1-3 Wimborne Town

Wimborne Town came from behind to secure a convincing 3-1 victory at Moneyfields in an entertaining FA Trophy tie. The hosts made a bright start and took an early lead, but Wimborne responded with three unanswered goals to turn the game on its head and progress to the next round.

Match Overview

Moneyfields began with purpose, pressing high and forcing an early mistake that led to the opening goal. However, the lead lasted just over ten minutes as Wimborne regrouped and began to dominate possession. The visitors equalised with a well-placed header and then took the lead before half-time from the penalty spot. In the second half, Wimborne managed the game expertly, adding a third goal on the counter-attack to seal a deserved win.

Key Moments

• 8' – Moneyfields take the lead: A defensive mix-up allowed the striker to pounce and slot the ball into the empty net.
• 23' – Wimborne equalise: A pinpoint cross from the left was met by a powerful header at the far post.
• 41' – Wimborne take the lead: A foul in the box resulted in a penalty, which was calmly converted.
• 67' – Wimborne seal it: A lightning counter-attack ended with a composed finish past the advancing goalkeeper.

Tactical Analysis

After going behind, Wimborne switched from a 4-4-2 to a 3-5-2, which gave them an extra man in midfield and allowed their wing-backs to push high. This change completely nullified Moneyfields’ early pressing game. The hosts struggled to adapt, and Wimborne’s numerical advantage in the centre of the park meant they controlled the tempo for long spells.

Standout Players

Wimborne’s No.10 was the standout performer, scoring twice — including the penalty — and linking play intelligently throughout. The right wing-back also impressed with his energy and delivery. For Moneyfields, their goalkeeper made a string of saves to keep the score respectable, but the defence was ultimately overwhelmed.

What It Means

Wimborne Town move into the hat for the next round of the FA Trophy, buoyed by a resilient away performance. Moneyfields exit the competition after a promising start, and will now turn their attention to league matters. The result serves as a reminder of the fine margins in knockout football.
