Stevenage Borough 0-1 Milton Keynes Dons saw the visitors claim a narrow but deserved League One victory at the Lamex Stadium on 24 October 2026. Aaron Kroft’s second-half goal proved enough to separate the sides, as Milton Keynes Dons produced a disciplined defensive display to frustrate Stevenage Borough.

Match overview

Stevenage Borough enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and created several promising openings, particularly in the first half. However, they were repeatedly denied by a combination of wasteful finishing and resilient defending from Milton Keynes Dons. The visitors grew into the game and struck the decisive blow just before the hour mark when Kroft found space in the box and finished calmly. Stevenage pushed hard for an equaliser, but MK Dons’ back line held firm to secure all three points.

Key moments

• 32’ – Stevenage Borough chance: The hosts’ best opportunity of the first half fell to Charlie Carter, but his shot was blocked on the line.
• 55’ – Aaron Kroft (Milton Keynes Dons): Kroft latched onto a clever through ball and slotted past the Stevenage goalkeeper.
• 78’ – Stevenage Borough chance: A header from a corner looped just over the crossbar as Stevenage pressed for a leveller.

Tactical story

Stevenage Borough looked to dominate the ball and play through the thirds, but they often found themselves crowded out in the final third. Milton Keynes Dons set up with a compact defensive block, inviting pressure and looking to hit on the counter-attack. That strategy paid off when Kroft scored, and from then on the visitors defended with discipline and intelligence. Stevenage’s manager made attacking changes, but MK Dons’ midfield shielded the defence superbly, limiting clear chances.

Standout players

Aaron Kroft was the match-winner for Milton Keynes Dons, and his movement throughout caused problems for the Stevenage defence. Goalkeeper Tom Reeves made two crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet, while the centre-back pairing dealt with a barrage of crosses. For Stevenage Borough, Charlie Carter was the standout performer, constantly probing and testing the MK Dons back line, but he lacked support in the final third.

Table and season impact

The win keeps Milton Keynes Dons in touch with the League One play-off places and extends their unbeaten run on the road. For Stevenage Borough, the defeat is a frustrating one, as they created enough chances to take at least a point. Both sides will take lessons from the game, but it is MK Dons who will travel home with renewed belief in their promotion credentials.
