Stevenage Borough stun Barnsley with emphatic 5-1 win at Oakwell

Stevenage Borough produced a stunning statement performance in English Football League One on Saturday night, thrashing Barnsley 5-1 at Oakwell. The visitors left South Yorkshire with their biggest away win of the season so far and served notice that they intend to be more than just play-off outsiders this term.

The match, which kicked off at 22:00, was effectively settled inside a breathless opening half-hour. Barnsley had come into the fixture hoping to build momentum in front of their own supporters, but Stevenage's aggressive pressing unsettled them from the very first whistle.

Carl Piergianni powered home a header from a corner, and substitute Nick Freeman completed the scoring late on with a clinical finish after another rapid breakaway.
