Buxton started strongly and took the lead in the 9th minute when a direct ball forward was flicked on and finished smartly by the advancing forward. Chorley FC responded well and equalised in the 31st minute after a sustained spell of possession ended with a low shot from the edge of the area.

Tactical story

Buxton’s approach was direct and purposeful, using long balls and second-ball pressure to unsettle Chorley’s back line. Their set-piece threat was evident throughout, and they consistently got numbers into the box when deliveries came in. Chorley, by contrast, preferred to build through midfield and dominate possession, and they created their best moments when their wide players were able to isolate their markers.

The decisive factor was Buxton’s ruthlessness in transition. With the game level at 2-2 and Chorley pushing for a winner, Buxton exploited the space left behind the home full-backs and produced the coolest moment of the match. Chorley’s late pressure came too late to rescue a point.

Standout performers and table impact

Buxton’s forward was a constant handful, while their midfield won the key second balls in the final 20 minutes. Chorley’s captain drove the comeback and was influential in both goals, but the home defence will be disappointed with the manner of the winner. The victory gives Buxton FC important momentum in the Conference North Division and highlights their ability to win high-scoring away games. Chorley FC, meanwhile, are left to reflect on a strong attacking display that was undone by one final defensive lapse.
