CD Independiente Juniors secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over San Antonio in the Ecuadorian Campeonato Serie B, using home advantage to claim all three points in a match that remained tense until the final whistle. The win adds momentum to Independiente Juniors' campaign as they look to climb the Serie B table.

Match overview

Independiente Juniors started brightly and set the tone with an aggressive press that forced San Antonio into early mistakes. The home side's midfield controlled the opening exchanges, and their reward came when they broke the deadlock with a composed finish inside the opening half-hour.

San Antonio responded with character, tightening their defensive shape and finding more joy on the counterattack. Their equaliser arrived before the break, setting up a second half that demanded patience, discipline and quality in the final third.

Key moments

• First goal: Independiente Juniors took the lead after a well-constructed move down the right, finished with a low strike.
• San Antonio equaliser: The visitors struck back through a quick transition, catching the home defence out of position.
• Winning goal: Independiente Juniors restored their advantage in the second half, converting a chance created by sustained pressure.
• Late resilience: San Antonio pushed for a leveller, but the home side defended their box well and saw out the win.

Tactical story

Independiente Juniors' game plan revolved around controlling midfield and using width to stretch San Antonio's back four. Their full-backs pushed high, creating overloads in wide areas and allowing the forwards to attack crosses. That approach produced the opening goal and kept the visitors pinned back for long stretches.

San Antonio were most dangerous when breaking quickly. Their equaliser came from exactly that route, exploiting space left behind by Independiente's advanced full-backs. In the second half, though, the hosts adjusted their shape, protected the centre better and limited San Antonio's counterattacking opportunities.

Standout performers

Independiente Juniors' midfield was central to the result, winning tackles and linking play with composure. The match-winner showed sharp movement in the box, while the goalkeeper made a crucial stop late on. For San Antonio, the forward line worked tirelessly and the equaliser was a reward for their persistence.

League impact

The 2-1 result gives CD Independiente Juniors three important points in the Ecuadorian Campeonato Serie B and strengthens their position heading into the next round of fixtures. San Antonio leave with nothing despite a battling display, but their performance suggests they will remain competitive in the division. For Independiente Juniors, the focus will now be on building consistency and turning home wins into a sustained promotion push.
