NK Jarun secured a narrow 1-0 win over Varteks Varazdin in the Croatian Second Football League on 10 October 2026, with a single second-half goal proving enough in a tightly contested encounter.

Match Overview

The match began with both teams cautious, each prioritising defensive solidity and looking to avoid early mistakes. NK Jarun gradually grew into the game, controlling more possession and forcing Varteks Varazdin into a deeper block. The visitors defended well for long periods and threatened on the counter, but they struggled to create clear chances against Jarun’s organised back line.

The decisive moment came in the 54th minute, when Jarun converted a well-constructed attacking move. After that, Varteks pushed more players forward in search of an equaliser, but Jarun managed the closing stages calmly, defending their lead with discipline and composure.

Key Moments

• 14th minute: NK Jarun created the first opening, but a shot from the edge of the box flashed wide.
• 38th minute: Varteks Varazdin’s best chance of the first half came from a counter-attack, but the final effort was blocked.
• 54th minute: Jarun scored the winner, finishing a quick passing sequence with a low strike into the bottom corner.
• 79th minute: Varteks thought they had a chance to equalise from a free-kick, but the header went over the bar.

Tactical Story

NK Jarun set up in a balanced 4-2-3-1 and focused on controlling the central areas. Their midfielders rotated well, creating passing angles and allowing the full-backs to advance without leaving the defence exposed. The winning goal came from this pattern: patient build-up, a sharp pass between the lines, and a composed finish.

Varteks Varazdin used a 4-4-2 and looked to press selectively, often dropping into a mid-block. They were difficult to break down in the first half, but as the game progressed, their pressing became less coordinated, and Jarun found more space in midfield. Varteks’ late substitutions added energy, but the equaliser never arrived.

Standout Players

Jarun’s match-winner was the clear standout, showing excellent positioning and a calm finish under pressure. Their central defender also had a strong game, winning aerial duels and stepping out to intercept passes. The goalkeeper commanded the box well and dealt confidently with late crosses.

For Varteks Varazdin, the goalkeeper kept his side in the match with two important saves, while the captain in midfield worked tirelessly to disrupt Jarun’s rhythm. Up front, however, Varteks lacked the final touch and could not turn their late pressure into a goal.

Table and Season Impact

The win gives NK Jarun three important points in the Croatian Second Football League and strengthens their position in a competitive promotion and mid-table race. For Varteks Varazdin, the narrow defeat is a frustrating result, but their defensive organisation for much of the match offers encouragement. Jarun will take confidence from another clean sheet and a disciplined home performance, while Varteks must improve their attacking output in tight away games.
