Viby IF left it late but left with all three points, beating Holstebro BK B 1-0 in the Danish 4th Division on Saturday, 26 September 2026. On a night when clear chances were at a premium, a single second-half goal was always likely to settle the contest — and so it proved, with the visitors defending their narrow lead with discipline through the closing stages.

Match overview

The fixture at Holstebro's home ground pitted a reserve side full of young, developing players against a Viby outfit built on experience and organisation. The hosts enjoyed plenty of the ball in the first half, moving it quickly through midfield and looking to spring runners in behind, but the final pass repeatedly let them down. Viby, happy to sit compact and hit on the counter, grew into the game as the half wore on.

The pattern continued after the interval. Holstebro BK B pushed their full-backs higher in search of an opener, and that extra ambition created exactly the space Viby had been waiting for.

Key moments

• 12' — Holstebro BK B's best chance of the opening half, a low strike from the edge of the box that forced a smart save down to the goalkeeper's right.
• 34' — Viby's first real sight of goal from a corner, headed over from six yards.
• 67' — The decisive moment. A quick turnover in midfield released Mikkel Bruun into the channel, and he finished calmly across the goalkeeper to make it 0-1.
• 80' — Holstebro BK B's goalkeeper kept his side within touching distance with a superb double save.
• 90+3' — A late free-kick into the Viby box was cleared at the second attempt, sealing the clean sheet.

Tactical story

This was a classic lower-division arm-wrestle: possession for one side, penetration for the other. Holstebro BK B finished with the greater share of the ball and more corners, but their attacking play lacked a cutting edge in the final third. Viby IF's defensive block was well drilled, with the back four holding a disciplined line and the midfield screen quick to close down second balls.

The visitors' willingness to defend deep and counter at speed was the difference. Their winner came from exactly that template — a compact shape, a turnover, and a direct pass into the space behind an advanced defence.

Standout performers

Mikkel Bruun was Viby's match-winner, and his movement throughout the evening caused the home defence problems even before the goal. In midfield, Viby's captain set the tempo with simple, efficient distribution, while the goalkeeper's late saves protected a hard-earned result.

For Holstebro BK B, the central defender who marshalled the back line was the pick of the bunch, reading danger well and stepping out to intercept on several occasions. The reserve side's young wide players showed flashes of genuine promise, and on another night their deliveries might have found a finishing touch.

What it means

Three points on the road are always welcome, and Viby IF will take particular satisfaction from a clean sheet in a game that could easily have drifted into a draw. For Holstebro BK B, the performance offered encouragement even in defeat: the structure was sound, the intensity was there, and the margins were small. Converting territory into goals remains the priority as the season progresses.

The result leaves the two teams moving in different directions in the Danish 4th Division standings, with Viby able to build momentum and Holstebro BK B left to reflect on a frustrating night in front of goal.
