SK Slovan Varnsdorf won a five-goal thriller in the Czech Third League on Sunday evening, defeating Sokol Brozany 3-2 at home. A late winner settled a contest that swung both ways and provided the home supporters with a dramatic finish under the lights.

An open contest from the start

Varnsdorf started brightly and took the lead in the 14th minute through Jakub Šimáček, who finished confidently after a neat passing move. Brozany responded well and equalised on the half-hour mark when Daniel Novák converted a cross from the right. The visitors then took a shock lead in the 56th minute through Tomáš Veselý, who capitalised on a defensive mix-up.

Varnsdorf refused to panic. Ondřej Kocourek levelled in the 71st minute with a powerful strike from the edge of the area, setting up a tense finale. The decisive moment arrived in the 88th minute when Matěj Kubišta latched onto a loose ball inside the box and fired home to send the home crowd into celebration.

Key moments

• 14’ – Šimáček gives Varnsdorf the lead: A patient build-up ends with a composed finish inside the area.
• 32’ – Novák equalises for Brozany: A deep cross is turned in at the back post.
• 56’ – Veselý puts Brozany ahead: A defensive error is punished with a close-range finish.
• 71’ – Kocourek makes it 2-2: A fierce strike from distance brings Varnsdorf level.
• 88’ – Kubišta wins it late: The forward reacts quickest to a rebound and seals the three points.

Tactical story

Both sides committed numbers forward, creating an end-to-end contest. Varnsdorf used width effectively and delivered several dangerous crosses, while Brozany looked threatening on the counter. The home side’s decision to push their full-backs higher in the final 20 minutes ultimately paid off, pinning Brozany back and creating the chance for the late winner.

Standout performers

Kubišta’s late goal capped an energetic performance, and Kocourek’s equaliser was the turning point. Šimáček set the tone early, while Brozany’s Novák and Veselý caused problems throughout. The Varnsdorf goalkeeper made a crucial save at 2-2 to keep the score level before the winner arrived.

Season impact

The victory gives SK Slovan Varnsdorf momentum in the Czech Third League and strengthens their push for a place in the promotion conversation. Sokol Brozany will be frustrated to leave empty-handed after leading in the second half, but their performance showed enough quality to suggest they will remain competitive in the coming weeks.
