Chlumec nad Cidlinou claimed a solid 2-0 home victory over Hlinsko in the Czech Fourth Division on Sunday afternoon. Two well-taken goals and a disciplined defensive performance gave the hosts a comfortable three points in a match they controlled for long spells.

Match Overview

The Czech Fourth Division is a division where organisation and set-piece quality often decide matches, and this fixture followed that pattern closely. Chlumec nad Cidlinou started with purpose, moved the ball quickly along the ground and looked to get their wide players into one-on-one situations. Hlinsko responded with a compact, deep-lying block and tried to spring counter-attacks through their front two, but they struggled to sustain any meaningful pressure.

Key Moments

• 21' – Chlumec's first clear opening, a header from a corner that flashed just wide of the post.
• 34' – 1-0 Chlumec nad Cidlinou. Jakub Novotný broke the deadlock, arriving late in the box to meet a cut-back and sweep the ball into the net.
• 49' – Hlinsko's best moment of the match, a shot from the edge of the area that the home goalkeeper turned behind for a corner.
• 71' – 2-0 Chlumec nad Cidlinou. David Horák doubled the lead with a composed finish after intercepting a loose pass and driving into the penalty area.
• 88' – Hlinsko pushed forward in search of a consolation but were denied by a goal-line clearance.

Tactical Story

The hosts' game plan was built on controlling the middle third and forcing Hlinsko to defend for long periods, and it worked almost exactly as intended. By keeping their full-backs disciplined and rotating the ball patiently, Chlumec nad Cidlinou prevented their opponents from ever establishing a foothold in the match.

The second goal was the turning point in terms of game management. With a two-goal cushion, the home side were able to sit a little deeper, protect the central areas and invite Hlinsko onto them, confident that their defensive structure would hold. It did — the visitors managed only a handful of half-chances across the 90 minutes.

Standout Performers

Jakub Novotný's opener was the product of excellent movement, and his link-up play throughout caused Hlinsko persistent problems. David Horák's second goal was the reward for an energetic performance that combined pressing with direct running. At the back, Chlumec nad Cidlinou's central defenders deserve credit for a clean sheet, while Hlinsko's goalkeeper made several smart stops to keep the margin down.

Season Impact

Three points at home and a clean sheet is exactly the kind of result that builds momentum in a long Czech Fourth Division campaign. Chlumec nad Cidlinou will take confidence from the balance between their attacking output and defensive solidity, a combination that tends to decide where teams finish in the table. Hlinsko, on the other hand, will reflect on a match in which they were second-best in both boxes and will look to sharpen their attacking play ahead of the next round of fixtures.
