SK Artis Brno booked their place in the next round of the Czech Cup with a solid 3-0 victory away at Vítkovice, in a tie between two clubs eager to make their mark on the national stage.

Played in front of a passionate local crowd on a midweek evening, this was a meeting of two ambitious sides from outside the top flight, and the margin of victory slightly flattered the visitors, who were made to work hard before pulling clear in the second half.

Match overview

The opening exchanges were cagey, with both teams wary of committing too many players forward. Vítkovice pressed energetically and created the first genuine chance of the match, but they were unable to convert their early pressure into a goal.

Artis Brno grew into the game and took the lead shortly before half-time, a goal that changed the complexion of the contest. With the visitors now able to sit deeper and counter, Vítkovice were forced to take risks, and that opened the space for Artis to add two more goals after the interval.

Key moments

• 29' — Vítkovice's best chance of the night is saved brilliantly by the Artis goalkeeper.
• 41' — Artis Brno take the lead with a well-placed shot from just inside the penalty area.
• 54' — A second goal follows a quick break, with the striker rounding the goalkeeper before finishing.
• 76' — The third goal arrives from a set piece, killing off any hope of a Vítkovice comeback.

Tactical story

Artis Brno's game plan was clear: stay compact, absorb pressure and strike on the counter. It worked perfectly. Their two central midfielders screened the defence effectively, and the front three were always a threat with their pace in behind.

Vítkovice dominated possession for long spells but struggled to break down a well-organised defence. Their crossing from wide areas was often dealt with comfortably, and when they did find space in the box, the final touch was lacking.

Standout performers

Artis Brno's goalkeeper was arguably the man of the match, producing a crucial save at 0-0 and commanding his area well throughout. The striker who scored the second goal was a constant menace with his movement and hold-up play.

For Vítkovice, the central defender did well against a difficult opponent, while the young winger showed flashes of real promise and will have learned plenty from the experience.

What it means

Artis Brno move on with a clean sheet and a comfortable scoreline, a combination that will boost belief ahead of a likely tougher draw in the next round. Cup runs can transform a club's season, and this squad will now fancy its chances of going further.

Vítkovice exit the competition, but their performance for the first hour showed why they are regarded as a club on the rise. Attention now turns back to the league, where the lessons from this tie can be put to immediate use.
