FC Slovan Liberec booked their place in the next round of the Czech Cup with a composed 2-0 victory away at FC Sellier & Bellot Vlašim on 15 September 2026, ending the lower-division side's cup hopes in front of their own supporters.

Match Overview

Cup fixtures between teams from different tiers are always punctuated by the same question: will the favourites handle the occasion and the hostile environment? On this evidence, Liberec answered emphatically. The top-flight visitors controlled the tempo from the early stages, kept the ball patiently and refused to be dragged into an end-to-end contest against an energetic and well-organised Vlašim side.

How the Match Unfolded

Vlašim started brightly, pressing high and looking to unsettle their more illustrious opponents. The opening exchanges saw the hosts win a couple of set-pieces and force Liberec into hurried clearances, but the visitors gradually imposed their superior technical quality on the game. The breakthrough came midway through the first half, and it was the kind of goal that reflected the difference in class — crisp passing followed by a composed finish.

The second goal effectively settled the tie. Arriving after a period of sustained pressure, it left Vlašim needing to produce something remarkable to stay in the competition. To their credit, the home side never stopped running, and their goalkeeper made several important saves to keep the margin respectable.

Key Moments

• Liberec open the scoring midway through the first half after a patient attacking move.
• A second goal for the visitors puts the result beyond doubt.
• Vlašim improve after the break but are thwarted by a solid Liberec defensive display.
• Late saves preserve the clean sheet for the away side.

Tactical Story

Liberec lined up with a compact midfield designed to dominate possession and deny Vlašim space to counter. The visitors' wingers stayed wide to stretch the home defence, while their full-backs overlapped selectively. Vlašim's game plan revolved around aggression and pressing, but the physical and technical gap told over ninety minutes. Their best moments came from direct play and second balls, but they lacked the cutting edge to truly trouble their opponents.

What It Means

The win keeps Liberec's cup ambitions firmly on track and allows them to manage their squad for the league campaign ahead. For Vlašim, elimination is disappointing but the performance — particularly in the second half — offered plenty of encouragement for their domestic season. A clean sheet and a two-goal margin away from home is exactly the kind of professional cup performance that coaches value, and Liberec can now look forward to the draw for the next round with confidence.

Player Watch

Liberec's attacking players deserve credit for their ruthlessness, but the foundation of the result was a disciplined defensive unit that dealt comfortably with everything Vlašim threw at them in the final twenty minutes.
