Aztecas AMF Soccer secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Huracanes Izcalli FC in a Copa Promesas MX group-stage clash that delivered end-to-end action and a late twist. The match, played on October 14, 2026, at the Huracanes’ home ground, saw the visitors come from behind twice before snatching the winner in the closing stages. The result hands Aztecas a vital three points in their push for knockout qualification, while Huracanes are left to rue missed chances in a game they controlled for long spells.

Match Overview

From the first whistle, the intensity matched the stakes. Huracanes Izcalli FC, playing in front of their home supporters, started brightly and pressed high, forcing Aztecas AMF Soccer into early errors. The opening goal arrived in the 12th minute when Luis “El Rayo” Mendoza latched onto a through ball and slotted calmly past the Aztecas goalkeeper. The lead, however, lasted only eight minutes. Aztecas responded through their captain, Diego Ramírez, who curled a left-footed shot into the top corner after a swift counter-attack.

The game settled into a tactical battle, with Huracanes dominating possession but struggling to break down a resilient Aztecas backline. Just before half-time, the hosts regained the lead. A corner from the right was met by centre-back Jorge “El Muro” Salazar, whose thumping header made it 2-1. The goal sent the home crowd into raptures, but it also served as a wake-up call for Aztecas.

Key Moments

• 12’ – Goal (Huracanes): Luis Mendoza finishes a quick break to give the hosts an early lead.
• 20’ – Goal (Aztecas): Diego Ramírez equalises with a stunning curling effort from outside the box.
• 44’ – Goal (Huracanes): Jorge Salazar heads in from a corner to restore the advantage before the break.
• 58’ – Goal (Aztecas): Substitute Andrés “El Conejo” Vega taps in from close range after a goalmouth scramble.
• 87’ – Goal (Aztecas): Ramírez turns provider, threading a perfect pass for Marco “El Tanque” Gutiérrez to fire home the winner.

Tactical Story

Huracanes Izcalli FC set up in a 4-3-3, looking to use width and quick combinations in wide areas. Their full-backs pushed high, and for large parts of the first half, they pinned Aztecas back. However, the hosts’ inability to convert sustained pressure into a third goal proved costly. Aztecas AMF Soccer, meanwhile, deployed a compact 4-4-2 that invited pressure and looked to strike on the counter. Their two second-half goals came from exactly that blueprint: absorbing waves of Huracanes attacks before springing forward with pace and precision.

The introduction of Andrés Vega at half-time changed the dynamic for Aztecas. His fresh legs and direct running stretched the Huracanes defence, which had begun to tire after their high-intensity start. The winning goal epitomised the visitors’ clinical edge—Ramírez, who had been excellent all evening, picked out Gutiérrez with a defence-splitting pass, and the striker made no mistake.

Standout Players

Diego Ramírez (Aztecas AMF Soccer): The captain was the engine of his team’s comeback, scoring one and assisting the winner. His ability to drift between the lines caused Huracanes problems all match.

Luis Mendoza (Huracanes Izcalli FC): The forward was a constant threat in the first half, scoring a well-taken opener and linking play intelligently. His substitution in the 70th minute coincided with Huracanes losing their attacking rhythm.

Jorge Salazar (Huracanes Izcalli FC): Solid defensively and a menace from set-pieces, his headed goal was the highlight of a committed performance, though he will be disappointed with how Aztecas exploited space behind him late on.

What It Means for the Copa Promesas MX Table

With this 3-2 win, Aztecas AMF Soccer climb to second in their group, level on points with the leaders and with a game in hand. The three points keep their knockout-stage hopes firmly in their own hands. For Huracanes Izcalli FC, the defeat leaves them in fourth, two points adrift of the qualification places. They will need to bounce back quickly in their next fixture to avoid slipping further behind.

The match also underlined the competitive nature of the Copa Promesas MX, a tournament known for giving emerging Mexican talent a platform to shine. Both sides showed why the competition is considered a breeding ground for future stars, with several players catching the eye of scouts in attendance.
