CD Anaitasuna FT produced a clinical attacking display to beat CD Tedeón 5-2 in their Copa del Rey tie on October 4, 2026. The Navarre side recovered from an early setback and ran away with the game in the second half, advancing to the next round with a performance that combined ruthless finishing and quick transitions.

Match overview

The Copa del Rey is famous for giving smaller clubs a shot at national glory, and this early-round tie pitted two ambitious sides against each other. Tedeón started brightly, pressing high and unsettling Anaitasuna's defence. But once Anaitasuna found their rhythm, the quality of their forward play told. The visitors' movement between the lines and willingness to shoot from distance turned the contest into a high-scoring affair.

Key moments

Tedeón took a shock lead in the 9th minute when Sergio Pascual latched onto a loose ball and finished from the edge of the box. The lead lasted only seven minutes, as Anaitasuna equalised through Aitor Zabaleta, who curled a shot into the far corner. Zabaleta struck again in the 28th minute after a swift counter-attack, and Iker Arrieta made it 3-1 before half-time with a header from a corner.

Tedeón refused to fold and pulled one back in the 54th minute through Javier Gil, giving the home crowd hope. But Anaitasuna responded immediately. Zabaleta completed his hat-trick in the 61st minute, finishing a flowing team move, and Arrieta added his second in the 78th minute to seal the 5-2 win. Tedeón pushed late for a consolation but found the visiting goalkeeper in fine form.

Tactical story

Anaitasuna set up with a 4-2-3-1 and looked to attack quickly after winning the ball. Their front four rotated constantly, dragging Tedeón's defenders out of position and creating space for late runners. Tedeón used a high defensive line, which proved costly against Anaitasuna's direct passes and penetrating runs. When Tedeón tried to press higher in the second half, Anaitasuna simply played through them with one-touch combinations.

Standout players

• Aitor Zabaleta (Anaitasuna): A hat-trick of varied finishes, including a curling opener and a counter-attacking strike.
• Iker Arrieta (Anaitasuna): Two goals and a constant threat from set pieces and open play.
• Sergio Pascual (Tedeón): Gave his side an early lead and worked tirelessly.
• Anaitasuna goalkeeper: Made important saves to deny Tedeón a late comeback.

Season impact

Anaitasuna move into the next round of the Copa del Rey with confidence and a healthy goal tally. Cup runs can lift a squad's belief and provide a welcome distraction from league duties. For Tedeón, the defeat is painful but the two-goal display showed they can compete against strong opposition. They will now refocus on their league campaign, while Anaitasuna prepare for another cup test.
