Villarreal CF produced a ruthless 5-0 away win over CD Manacor in the Copa del Rey, delivering a performance full of pace, precision and finishing quality. The La Liga side were a class above from the first minute, and the scoreline could have been even more emphatic given the number of chances they created.

Match overview

Villarreal wasted little time asserting their authority, pressing Manacor high and forcing mistakes in the home side’s build-up. The early breakthrough settled any lingering nerves, and from that point the visitors played with freedom and confidence. Manacor tried to stay compact, but Villarreal’s movement and technical superiority pulled them apart repeatedly.

The second half was one-way traffic for long spells. Villarreal kept the ball with purpose, attacked through both flanks and punished Manacor’s tired legs with late goals. The home side never stopped working, but they were simply overwhelmed by the quality of the opposition.

Key moments

• 8th minute: Villarreal took an early lead with a sharp finish after a high turnover.
• 27th minute: A flowing team move doubled the advantage, cutting Manacor open through the middle.
• 49th minute: The visitors scored shortly after the restart to remove any doubt about the result.
• 66th minute: Villarreal’s centre-forward completed a hat-trick with a composed finish inside the box.
• 88th minute: A late fifth goal capped a dominant display.

Tactical story

Villarreal’s high press was the foundation of the win. They suffocated Manacor’s attempts to play out from the back, winning the ball in dangerous areas and attacking quickly. The midfield trio dictated tempo, while the front three constantly rotated, making it impossible for the home defence to maintain clear markings.

Manacor tried to defend in numbers and limit space centrally, but Villarreal’s width stretched them to breaking point. The hosts also struggled to keep possession long enough to relieve pressure, which meant the game was played almost entirely in their defensive third.

Standout players

Villarreal’s centre-forward was the obvious headline-maker with a hat-trick, showing sharp movement and clinical finishing. The creative midfielder behind him was equally impressive, consistently finding pockets of space and playing the final pass. For Manacor, the goalkeeper made several saves to prevent an even heavier defeat, and the young defenders gained valuable experience against elite opposition.
