UB Lebrijana came from behind to beat CD Ceuta 6 de Junio 2-1 in their Copa del Rey tie on October 4, 2026, with a late header sending the Andalusian side through. Ceuta 6 de Junio had taken a first-half lead and looked capable of an upset, but Lebrijana's experience and set-piece quality turned the match around in the final half hour.

Match overview

The Copa del Rey's early rounds often produce emotional, unpredictable matches, and this tie was no exception. Ceuta 6 de Junio, representing the autonomous city of Ceuta, started with intensity and pressed Lebrijana high. The visitors from Lebrija, in Seville province, took time to settle, but their superior game management eventually told. The match was played at a frantic pace, with both teams committing bodies forward and leaving space in behind.

Key moments

Ceuta 6 de Junio opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Youssef El Amrani cut inside from the left and curled a shot beyond the goalkeeper. The home side almost doubled their lead before half-time, but a close-range effort was blocked on the line. Lebrijana improved after the break and equalised in the 61st minute through Manuel Vega, who converted a low cross from the right after a well-worked move.

The winning goal arrived in the 88th minute. Lebrijana won a corner on the left, and Javier Romero rose above his marker to head the ball into the bottom corner. Ceuta 6 de Junio threw everyone forward in stoppage time, but Lebrijana's goalkeeper made a smart save at the near post to preserve the victory.

Tactical story

Ceuta 6 de Junio used a 4-4-2 and tried to overwhelm Lebrijana with energy and direct running. For 45 minutes, the plan worked well; their wingers found space and their striker held the ball up effectively. Lebrijana adjusted after half-time, switching to a 4-3-3 and pushing their full-backs higher to pin Ceuta back. The change gave them more control in midfield and allowed them to deliver more crosses into the box, which led to both goals.

Standout players

• Javier Romero (Lebrijana): The late match-winner and a threat from every set piece.
• Manuel Vega (Lebrijana): Scored the equaliser and linked play intelligently.
• Youssef El Amrani (Ceuta 6 de Junio): Opened the scoring with a fine individual effort.
• Lebrijana goalkeeper: Made a decisive stoppage-time save to deny a late equaliser.

Season impact

Lebrijana advance to the next round of the Copa del Rey, where they will hope to carry this momentum into another cup tie. The comeback win highlights their resilience and ability to adapt mid-game. Ceuta 6 de Junio exit the competition with a strong performance but will be disappointed not to have protected their lead. They can take encouragement from the way they competed against more experienced opposition.
